WTK - OO Semi-Auto BAR Legal to Ship to California?

    Hi,
I am considering a purchase an Ohio Ordnance Semi Auto (cannot be made to fire full auto) from a private party in Texas. They told me that they think it cannot be transferred into California. It does not have a pistol grip. I know that Ohio Ordnance ships to California. Does this rifle need a bullet button or similar modification for California? I know that the original 10+ magazines cannot be used and shipped. Thanks!

No pistol grip means it should be fine (it's nothing more than a Mini-14).

I can't remember if the BARs had Brakes or FH's on them, though. If an FH - it would have to be removed or replaces with a brake.

Yep - I got mine a year or so ago. OOW has a CA package which includes cutting down the flash suppressor to keep it featureless and pinning the mags for you ($150.00 for two mags)

If you have any other specific questions, PM me.

Yea, just get the flashider removed and you're good to go.
The other issue is any high cap mags. Tell him to dissassemble the mags and send them as parts

          Thanks!

Thanks. I will use the Mini-14 analogy and the chart. I'll have him remove the flash hider and keep it along with the magazines. I don't want any issues. Maybe he could send the flash hider to OO and I could pay to have it machined to meet CA standards. Does the flash hider remove easily?

The OOW BAR is California legal.

            Just don't install the bipod/flashider.

If you don't already have original BAR mags, convert some originals to a max. 10 round capacity.

I hope yours works better than mine (before Bob repaired the piece)

You can use the bipod but have to mod the FH to a MB. I agree have the mags disassembled and sent to you then assemble legally .....sometimes you can find pre 2000 BAR surplus mag parts at the shows ....

Yes, just use a big crescent wrench - it's just like unscrewing that nut on the bottom loop of a sink drain. Have him send it to you separately, can probably be modded to comply.

Regarding the magazines, I haven't seen any 10 rounders for sale. There are plenty of original issue 20 rounders around for anywhere from $13.00 to $30.00 but these aren't likely to be found at the "mag rebuild kit" on line vendors - my approach would be to ask the fellow selling you the gun to disassemble and mail them to you as a rebuild kit, then turn them into 10 rounders.

Buy some extra firing pins. They tend to break very easily as they have been modified to work with the SA system. One bloke who has one opened up the firing pin hole in the bolt face so he could use original GI surplus pins, which solved his problem.
