I agree, doesn't look good. But I have enough crap to deal with in my life that is negative than to immediately be the judge and jury and turn what little smile I have on my face upside down and spew more negativity.

I have more than a couple of friends that did some REAL STUPID crap a quite some time ago, pretty decent stand up people. Watched one of them close a gapping chest wound up and perform CPR on someone while we waited for the ambulance to come. Oh, by the way, dude did drugs in his teens. Just saying a pretty blanket ****ty statement, but hey, thats what forums are for, not helping and bashing people because we are perfect.

But I do agree, not someone we should stand behind as the face of law abiding firearm owners.

He doesn't want to be the poster boy for CGF.

He did a few mistakes when he was 19-20 he's 30 now owns his home cars has a decent paying job and is a great father of three.

Since I first posted this thread he has went to the courthouse to get his paper work. The clerk asked him what for, he said he was trying to buy a gun and wanted to get his paperwork to see what he can do about his record. The clerk looked it over said he only had ONE felony possession which he had to do a program for didn't do it and didn't show up to court so he got a FTA and that was what he thought was the 2nd felony but was actually just an FTA.

He eventually did his time in county jail and program but he is still on probation until he pays off his DUI fines. His two DUI's where for alcohol not drugs.

The clerk (which is also a firearm enthusiast) told him that he can indeed buy a gun and told him that there was no reason why he needed a copy of his record since he wasn't a prohibited person. He didn't give my brother a copy.

What to do now? Take the clerks word for it? Thanks to those who understand people make mistakes but people also grow in maturity with age.

I wish him the best of luck, but two DUIs indicates to me a serious problem with lack of respect for the damage that a dangerous machine can cause in the hands of a negligent operator. Everybody deserves a second chance, but I would think he'd better clean up his substance problems before he looks into firearm ownership. Heck, if it were me, I'd take a good hard look at my life before I even got behind the wheel of a car again. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior…

He's still on probation because he hasn't paid his DUI fines? Hmm, I don't know why he's focusing his energy on buying a gun right now. People do grow up and learn from their mistakes, but I think paying the fines, getting off probation and living a few years off probation with no other problems is a part of that process.
