First the bad news: The Republican candidate, Bill Brady, who probably would have made Illinois go shall-issue, lost by a razor-thin margin. Anyone who thinks "my vote doesn't count" or "I should vote third party in close races" should look at this situation. Illinois lost its chance at CCW reform because a few thousand gun owners there couldn't be bothered to check one box on an absentee ballot and drop it in the mail. They could have gone shall-issue at a whopping cost of five minutes of their time and a $0.44 stamp.
Now the good news: Governor-elect Quinn has promised to raise Illinois taxes by 1/3. All those Illinois gun owners (who are more likely than the general population to be employed and pay taxes) will now pay dearly for their apathy. Instead of cleaning up house, Illinois' corrupt Democratic party machinists (government unions, public safety unions) will now get even more money and job security.
LET THIS BE A LESSON.
We're having a similar lesson here, with Kamala "I love cop killers" Harris vs. Steve Cooley. That race is still too close to call, but Harris is in the lead and she will be bad for us. I guess we're lucky that she can't tax us to death the way Quinn will do to everyone in Illinois who failed to vote.
