    California legal Destructive Device?????

So I found this while surfing gunbroker.

It is a Boyd's Anti tank rifle .55 cal.
It is registered as a destructive device with the ATF but doesn't meet the state DD requirement of being a caliber larger than .60
What do you guys think? Any problems with it being registered as a DD with the ATF? Kind of expensive but you would be the coolest kid on the block. And it can take out a friggin tank!

yup, DDs between .51" and .60" are regulated federally, but not by CA. So, all you need is an approved Form 4 and you are golden.

now, in order to transfer a DD, you normally need an 09FFL (DD dealer) and the SOT is $3000 per year, but if you can't find a local DD dealer, ATF will usually allow you to transfer a few DDs without getting the DD SOT.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Yeah, and I would suspect that it could use a few more inches of padding at that.

This one from another of their auctions looks interesting as well. It is pictured next to the Barrett .50bmg.

I would love a 20mm but unfortunately it would fall under CA's destructive device law. I did notice that they have a collector of destructive devices permit that I was thinking of trying to get.

What about the ammo? Is that also a DD?

                That's practice ammo...
It would be DD only if it has more than 1/4oz of HE as a payload.

I think I recall Gene saying that the DD permt was a "shall issue" permit, that as long as you weren't prohibited, that they had to issue it, but I don't see that in the PC.

                    What's the $3000 a year for? Ammo? Anti-drool coating?

I think it's along the lines of the AW permit that they are able to issue... they just haven't noticed that they can refuse to do so... like they did to him with the AW permit.

As far as firing one of those anti-material guns... damn i would want a crazy recoil system built into that.

I always wanted an M79. Maybe for christmas.

If you are a dealer in Destructive devices your FFL fee is $3000 if I remember correctly.
