Now that Jerry Brown is our new governor (thanks in part to the support of many fellow Calgunners), what do you think he'll do to proactively help CA gun owners restore their rights? Will he help to appeal the AWB, the standard cap mag ban, AB962? I find it highly unlikely, given that he has a "D" grade from the NRA. Will he reject anti-gun legislation that comes across his desk for signing or will he simply appease his far-left Democrat base and throw all gun owners under the bus? I'm curious what the expected result of his election is for pro-gun people who voted for him.

His true position on the Second Amendment has yet to reveal it's self. But that is the least of our worries.sigpic"A FREE PEOPLE OUGHT NOT ONLY BE ARMED AND DISCIPLINED, BUT THEY SHOULD HAVE SUFFICIENT ARMS AND AMMUNITION TO MAINTAIN A STATUS OF INDEPENDENCE FROM ANY WHO MIGHT ATTEMPT TO ABUSE THEM, WHICH WOULD INCLUDE THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT."

Never expect a governor of any party to proactively do anything in the political environment we have (no money, legislature mostly Dems, fair fraction of Dem legislators privately not fond of Brown).
No CA governor, Republican or otherwise, is gonna spend political capital on driving pro-gun bills. Given the CA Republican party has had long history of governors from either party doing anti-gun things
All we need is quiet blocking action, especially if Harris becomes AG. Brown has actually spent his own political capital on pro-gun actions in the past during more critical times (notice there was no Brady/LCAV support at all, even in a fake grin & bear it sense) - so there's no further cost for these future vetos of bad gun bills, and a reward of support
BTW, Brown's 'base' is not that far left. His base which was kinda inherited from his dad is the old-line skilled unions - electical, sheetmetal, steamfitters, etc. - and mostly white/native and English-speaking. Those guys formed the "Reagan democrats" of the 80s. The 'new-line' unions (SEIU floor sweeper types, etc.) are not Brown fans at all and regard him as too conservative pro-biz, etc. They had to give formal support (whaddya they gonna do, vote for eMeg??) but as you can see they weren't too enthused, this wasn't that high a turnout election.Last edited by bwiese; 11-03-2010, 9:48 AM.

I hope you're right Bill because I didn't vote for either Whitman or Brown (wrote myself in) and now I'm feeling mighty guilty about that decision. I feel like I voted for Brown and the destruction of my home state.-- Proud Donor. Please join me in donating now to help protect our 2nd amendment rights.

Like all politicians he will do nothing for us. Hopefully he will do the least harm though.Comment

He will not do ANYTHING to help gun rights. He will more than happily **** everything else up.
The gun issue should NOT have been why you voted for Brown. A Governor has VERY little to do with that.Artist formally known as CEO of Tracy Rifle and PistolComment

Other than avoiding the issue and doing his best to keep them off his plate as much as possible I don't see him doing much for us.
I am not sure I even see him vetoing bills on our behalf, not if they have popular support and any sort of spotlight on them. Some quite little bill, sure. Something people will hold him accountable for, not a chance. I think the most we can hope for from him is not to champion an anti-gun bill.
With 97% reporting they have Kamala D. Harris (Dem) ahead with 46.1% (3,246,146) of the vote and Steve Cooley (Rep) at 45.6% (3,215,104). That is only 31,402 votes. So I assume their going to have to wait to count mail in ballots and weigh the possibility of a recount challenge. Or maybe not, since so many of the other races were clearly so one sided, perhaps the Brown's coat tails were long enough to drag enough Dems to the polls even Cooley couldn't win. Perhaps Cooley will just conceed. Haven't seen anything on his web page or online saying he's done so yet.
AG is huge for gun rights, and the liberal district attorney from San Francisco is NOT the best choice gun for those of us concerned about 2nd Amendment rights. So how that plays out is huge for us.
The rest of the races seem pretty clear, those of us who consider ourselves Republicans have a lot of crying in our beers to do this week (here in California at least). Especially with Boxer remaining in the Senate. I was never a huge fan of hers, but being former military her call me Senator rant with General Walsh really disgusted me. Ironically I watched that live on CSpan. I almost never watch CSpan, but was working on setting up my enterainment system in my living room and somehow it ended up on CSpan and I just happened to catch those comments. Stopped me in my tracks. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Shows a clear distain on her part for the armed forces and lack of understanding of the traditions and culture of the military. Poor general had to fight 20+ years of indoctrination of calling women in authority "mam" to accomodate her ego trip. She made herself and him look foolish on national television.

Brown was the best option available. I voted for him in the hopes that he'll veto new gun laws that come across his desk, because of his pro-gun actions as AG, and because he frames the 2nd Amendment to the constitution as protecting the natural right of self defense. I've never been a party line voter and I am not embarrassed about that vote.
I unapologetically voted for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and I'd do it again.
I am really frustrated that Cooley didn't win handily, but he should be close enough that they'll have to count every absentee ballot, which should favor him. That race is turning out to be really tight."Ecuador offers the United States $23 million a year in economic aid, an amount similar to what we were receiving under the tariff benefits, with the purpose of providing human rights training that will contribute to avoid violations of people's privacy, that degrade humanity," --Fernando AlvaradoComment
