    50 cal ?

I was thinking abut the new assualt weapons ban Diane is trying to push.
If she makes the 50 cal a NFA type gun and that it would require a Class 3 licence to own would that allow us to get a class 3 licence in ca ?

It's not like that. I don't ahve all the details, but "Class III" is misunderstood - most ordinary folks that own NFA guns don't have any 'Class III license', they merely own legitimate NFA-registered firearms (MGs, SBRs, SBSes, AOWs, DDs, etc.) for which they have paid the transfer tax, filed Form 4 or whatever, etc. to acquire.

Let's say you had a 50BMG that was already reg'd as a 50BMG in CA. (As you know, 50BMG rifles were banned in CA since 1/2005, and existing owners had to register them in by April 2006.)

Now let's say it becomes Federally banned - likely as a 'destructive device' if this were to happen, kinda like what happened to Street Sweeper & Striker 12 shotguns. You would have a time period to get it registered into the Fed NFA registry, that's all. I am not sure if a tax has to be paid - likely not, as you were the existing owner of the gun before it transitioned into NFA status.

It would not give you additional California privileges, nor would any of this Fed stuff involved override any CA 50BMG stuff - it won't open up additional 50BMG acquisitions in CA, nor allow you to acquire any fun stuff in CA.

I will note this is highly unlikely to pass on a Federal basis as long as we keep up the pressure.
