    UOC Question

    Hi All,

I use Caltrain to get to and from work. I saw a thread a while back about carry a weapon in a locked container on trains, but I was wondering about UOC. Is this allowed? One point to consider is there is at least one point the Caltrain line where the train passes right by a school (Palo Alto High). Would this violate the school zone restriction?

This question is more out of general curiosity than anything else. I have never UOCed, and I wouldn't carry at work if I ever did UOC. Any thoughts?

I've thought about this before as well. The school zone issue is obviously a problem. The bigger problem is that you'd be on private property, and thus be obliged to leave if asked to do so by a conductor.

There was also a bill passed in August that might prohibit UOCing on public transportation, AB 2324. I imagine it becomes law in January.

UOC on any public transit is highly discouraged. Even as an avid open carrier, I avoid such things. There are several pitfalls, not the least of which you could be traveling through school zones without evening knowing it.

If you must carry on transit, do LUCC (locked, unloaded, concealed carry). Get a briefcase that locks, rig it out with foam cut outs and carry in that. You don't want it to be obviously a gun case.

Caltrain is owned and operated by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, a government entity.
