CALNRA CAL-ERT: VIRTUAL RALLY, Wednesday, May 23, 2007

    CAL-ERT 05/18/07 --- Noon
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This information is accurate at the time this CAL-ERT was written and originally distributed. The NRA Members' Councils of California will keep you informed as the situation changes in Sacramento.

VIRTUAL RALLY, Wednesday, May 23, 2007

Join us and help defend California's firearm freedoms

    IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!!!

IT'S TIME TO LIGHT-UP THE PHONES IN SACRAMENTO

In Sacramento, the anti-gun hysteria is at a fever pitch, and groups like the so-called "Brady Campaign" are promoting even more of it.

Upset by NRA's victories in the Democrat controlled legislature, these anti-gun zealots are attempting to copy one of our most successful strategies --- direct lobbying by constituents! In other words, people contacting the legislature in mass.

Working in conjunction with the NRA-ILA State Liaison, Ed Worley, the NRA Members' Councils have - for the last several years - used their latest Internet based communication system to deliver a crushing volume of calls, faxes and emails into the State Capitol.

YOU CAN HELP PROTECT THE SECOND AMENDMENT AND STOP THE ANTI-FREEDOM FRINGE! ! !

SITUATION: Gun banners are getting active
    • On Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 - Gun banners from the "Brady Campaign" will be lobbying (in support of more gun control) in the State Capitol from 9:30AM until 4:00PM. They call this activity, "LOBBY DAY 2007"

WHAT YOU CAN DO: Tell the Legislators to stop supporting ill-conceived gun control proposals
    • RIGHT NOW: Send this message to every gun owner you know. Include all: gun clubs, stores, ranges, RKBA groups, etc. Cross-post this on the Internet on web sites and firearm-related forums. Email this link http://www.calnra.com/calerts/calert051807.shtml to everyone you know.
    • RIGHT NOW: On the Internet, go to the California Legislative Contact Page at: http://www.calnra.com/legs.shtml and use our ONE-CLICK email delivery system to contact the Assembly or Senate with a single message regarding pending legislation. Note: emails will be received in the legislators offices with the "From:" field set to the ORIGINAL SENDER. Remember that you are sending a single Email to several people. You should address your message accordingly. Example: "Dear Assembly Member... (Legislators will not see that they are receiving the same message as the others.)
    • WEDNESDAY, MAY 23RD: Call and Fax the legislature and voice your opposition to more gun control proposals! And make those phone calls/faxes between 9:30AM until 4:00PM. The Brady Bunch will be visiting the legislative offices at the same time your calls and faxes will be arriving. Contact information, including phone fax numbers, is listed on the CA Legislative Contact Pages at: http://www.calnra.com/legs/asm.shtml and http://www.calnra.com/legs/sen.shtml.

Together, our voices will be heard! --- Together, we can stop the anti-freedom forces and win back our rights!

    Roger that.

Time to 'light up the boards'.

This is important, folks. It only takes a bit of time and/or a nickel for a phone call.

You've got an OLL - you still want ammo for it?

Mike, just something of note, i spent about 10 minutes trying to find the "one click email" link and I can't.

That site is kind of confusing and all I see is a big wall of text...

*Edit* I am guess that by "one click" you mean the link that opens up my email client and automatically types the email address? Um... I was under the impression that "one click" means pre-generated email done through the html page...

Alright, where the hell is the "one click email system" on that page of theirs? If anyone here knows web design, they could certainly use the help.

I'm going to have to send in my faxes early on Tuesday night. I start work early in the morning and don't get home until after 6:30. So, my state senator and assembly member's staff will see my fax sitting on their computer log when they come into work on Wed morning. Or, at least I hope so.

Look towards the bottom of the page you will see a large logo that looks like this:

The arrow is pointing at a list, the top line of each item on the list is a clickable link that will open and address a 'compose' page of your default mail program.
Each of the clickable links start with: 'Send a ONE-CLICK Email to'

You do have to write your own email but that is what makes it carry more weight than a form letter, there is no denying these are the opinions of real people who care enough to at least write an email.

I am going to set up my default email client just for this, I usually just use web based stuff.

The one click system is a random email sent to one of the members of whoever we are trying to see our point of view, it changes so everyone in the councel, senate, commitee, etc will hear from the NRA (you).

Once you find out how it works it isnt too hard but I agree the web page has alot of info and Id like to see it have a short note attached as well but Im guessing they can throw away anything that looks like spam even if its sent by its real people.

Good to ask questionsand bring this up so Mike can look at making things as easy and fast as possible imo.

Well, not exactly. There's nothing random about it - every ONE-CLICK you send is sent to every lawmaker in the body or committee being addressed.

So if you ONE-CLICK the Assembly one time, you actually deliver almost 80 copies of your message - one to every Assemblyperson who has public email (most by far.)

...Good to ask questions and bring this up so Mike can look at making things as easy and fast as possible imo.
Glad to take suggestions, but there is actually a better URL to give people for getting to the ONE-CLICK system. The one given in the CAL-ERT...

...*IS* the page that has the ONE-CLICK list (at the bottom of that page), but this link...

...should take you right to it. I helped proofread the CAL-ERT but didn't notice this possible improvement (and I should have, sorry). We won't forget next time.

But don't forget - the virtual rally will be most effective if we "LIGHT-UP THE PHONES IN SACRAMENTO" on May 23rd. Faxes, emails, can be put off until the next day. You have to address someone on the phone right then.

                      Dont Tread on Me

This Is The Most Important Thread On Calguns!

I sent a one-click tonight summarizing my alarm at the anti shooting sports bills and suggested a overhaul of CA gun laws. Current laws are doing nothing to reduce crime lets not pass anymore without thinking about it.

I looked up my assembly and senate reps. Got their phone numbers on my Wednesday calendar. Faxes and phone calls cocked and locked:-)

Lets make the brady bunch look like 20 hysterical sheep.

                        I'm in.

I'd like to see a little commitment from the rest of the membership, too.

Unfortunately, we gun owners talk a pretty good game - but we don't follow through often enough. We're like bad boyfriends. We forget to call, we don't write, and we to often forget to offer praise when someone does a good job.

So, I'd like to see some posts on Wednesday from folks who DID make the call to Sacto.

Is this too much to ask?
