      Indeed.

H&K has stated that it will not be making a civilian legal HK-416. However, they did say they may make a civilian legal version of the HK-417. But, the HK-417 is still in the "prototype" stage of development and, in order to release a civilian legal HK-417, H&K will have to open rifle production facilities in the USA, which they currently do not intend to do.

Some HK-416 upper recievers have been released for civilian consumption by some Class 3 dealers. But, the price they have been selling for is in the realm of hard-core H&K collecters only.

After doing some reading, I can't see why they would not sell them to civilians - the improvements will no doubt make these highly sought after. Once tooling is set, mass production will do the rest.

Regardless of whether HK wants to sell it to civvies, the nonsporting barrel import ban throws that askew. HK does not make the 416s in USA.

As "Quiet" said, some Class III dealers have stripped used? uppers from some LEO-channel guns. There was one on AR15.COM for $5000.

These uppers may be 'nice' but they ain't worth $5K or even $1K.

The jury is still out for another 10 years on piston reliability.

If you must have a piston upper, there are several other companies that make them. Honestly I'd rather just stick with a regular gas system.

$5000 for an upper....Not worth it. Rather buy 2 ea. LWRC DMR. Just my 2 cents.

I was just curious. Probably better off with a POF if you're talking about those prices. I was under the impression that they worked out a deal with DoS to sell uppers in the US.

You'd be more likely to find a phase plasma rifle in the 40 watt range. lmao

For 5K i'd rather have the ARES belt fed upper for ARs

Even if you had $5K and 2 years I don't think you'd have one. I have not heard of it shipping - it's 'vaporware'.

Besides what good is a belt-fed upper in CA - most folks don't have pre-ban linked 5.56 ammo. MonsterMan grip + detachable mag rifles are actually far more useful...

You guys are raining all over my parade... after viewing all the OLL builds, the 1991 porn, etc., CalGuns has me wanting more.

My problem obviously extends beyond the HK416/417, so I digress.

                            Back to our regular program.
