Well if the purpose of the hearing is to advance the BATFE reform bills, S941/HR2296, then I am all for it.

I can't imagine the statist gun grabbers on the committee would want to throw a bunch of blood and red meat in the water this close to the election, unless they are really, really dumb.

Talking about it costs them nothing. DOING it is a different matter.

AND this. This is to appease the Brady crowd like the little pow wow they had a month or two back. "Look, we're doing something!" but not really.

The longer the circus goes on, it is apparent the current bunch of democrats in the house/senate and the whitehouse don't give a flying fcuk what happens to them. They have already committed political suicide with the healthcare bill and everything else they shoved down our throats. It's just about GETTING IT DONE!

If this is about S941 it may be electioneering ad much add the proposed tax cuts etc. but I'll take it whatever the motivation.

I just spoke with a staff member of the Committee. She said while S.941 - the BATFE Reform Act - could be considered, the hearings are NOT limited to that. It can go in any direction the individual Senators chose to go. She said it was a general topic and not limited to just hearings on S.941.

I have a call into the Minority Staff PR person and an email into the Majority PR person seeking more info.

                Watch this one closely.

I'd suspect they'd raise S.941 at some point so they can claim that was the main reason for the meeting... while also discussing some ideas on restructuring the existing regulations.

                  Guys.

We own the senate, they are not going to pass laws that further infringe our rights at this time.

The Democrats are looking at taking a huge beating in the midterms.

They know it is more important to move toward the middle than to appeal to their base.

They know that firearms is one of the places their leadership's beliefs are contrary to prevailing public opinion

This all adds up to good things or nothing coming out of the hearing.

I'm not saying it isn't important to follow what's happening or that we shouldn't keep their feet to the fire but we ARE winning and this is almost certainly just the antis throwing us a bone to try and get re-elected. (Much like the tax cuts that the administration is suddenly supporting.)

Don't fall for their trap and believe that the antis have seen the light, but you can be sure this is a good sign they've felt the heat.

Two or so months ago when this happened before, I got three or so emails from the Bradys touting how they had made this happen and exhorting their members to send more money to help them increase the results these little conferences provide. It's a show for appeasement purposes only.

Of course, it could be as Bweise and bigdogatplay stated in the other thread, too.

Or it could mean they're looking at requiring ATF document their test methods for determining what is or is not an MG or SBR, have public comment periods before new regulations, etc.

This bill will likely get attached to the DOJ appropriations budget.

Btw, folks, we WANT the importations provisions and the "movie production/security contractors" exceptions to pass. Read the between lines.

I think it's a blatant move to allow more Dems in marginal districts to poison themselves ahead of the election. That or they are going to try to find some additional to regulate using the Commerce Clause before any more 2A decisions get to SCOTUS which will throw them out.

This is actually excellent, well if you live outside of CA it is. Hollywood's been sucking up to the Dems and it payback time. If you dig real deep in there you will find this tidbit.

"... provide for the transfer and possession of new machineguns by professional film and theatrical organizations."

Now before you get your panties in a twist about special treatment for Hollywood, some very smart people are saying that this may well be the route to re-open the NFA registry for all through the use of the Equal Protection clause. Basically, if its allowed for one type of business, it should be allowed for all businesses and individuals who can meet the requirements.

Kharn's Movie Rentals would be a fun side business, I wonder how many independent films are shot within 25 miles of my house and need MGs.
