Definately a black bear. As others have said, they come in a variety of colors despite the name. I grew up in Alaska, and had bears around our trash from time to time. They can be a real pain, if you put a good scare into him, like making a lot of noise, and/or hitting him with the pepper spray, he will probably run and may not come back, but then again. if he's been getting a good feed, he might be difficult to keep away. Please be careful, they are very unpredictable, especially with the smell of "food" in the air! I think if you shoot him, you might be in more trouble than if you shot a person.

Good idea. But you'd better have a few real ones in there, in case the bear calls your bluff!
