Buying a CA-Legal gun in another state?

I read on another forum, The Firing Line, about how a CA resident went to Nevada to buy a CA Legal gun. Are you able to do this? Or is it only for people with dual state Residences?

I found out that you can't do this legally with handguns, but is it legal if it were a long gun? An example would be something like me buying Winchester 70 or Remington 700 in Nevada, Oregon or Arizona?

    Thank you for the input.

You need to follow FEDERAL LAW which means that you would need to be a resident of whatever state you bought the rifle in. There are a few exceptions but, California residents do not qualify for them. OK, +50 year old long guns are doable from a private party but not a FFL.
