Long Beach PD rescues UOCer from Park Police on Independence Day!!

    http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/sh...t.-Me-in-cuffs.

UOC 4th of July. Police contact. Me in cuffs.

Wow. I will be adding audio and pics. My family and I were at a park in Long Beach all day. I was UOCing my 1911 and full mag. Park Ranger makes contact draws his own gun on me puts me to the ground cuffs me and off to the car we go. Long story short I'll add more later.

Long Beach Pd shows up and bails me out of trouble gets me out of ranger car gives back full mag and gun for me to holster and let's me go infront of a large confused crowd of sheeple. Sorry I'm on my phone I'll add more details later.

OK. I was at Heartwell park off of Clark and Carson in Long beach. I had been playing ball with the kids all day. There is a great fire works show across the street at Veterans stadium. lots of people hang out and barbecue during the day. Around 20:30 I see what looks like a cop approaching he tells me to come over to him. He grabs my arm and struggles to unholster his gun.

At this point I say nothing and try to comply to every command. Hands down hands up get on your knees lay down it was very confusing. It turns out the park rangers and long beach police both responded to a man with gun call. First contact was with the park ranger who were clueless of my rights.

Cuffed and taken to the street where i invoked my right to remain silent and i did. I told the rangers i did not consent to a search of my person or belongings. They took my wallet and got out my ID ran my ID and found out I am not a bad guy. even after that they re-cuffed me and put me in the ranger car while they tried to find a charge to take me in.

A long beach pd came to the car and asked my name so he could run the serial number on my gun. He said the rangers were " idiots" ha classic. After an hour the rangers were told they could not charge me under penal code 12031. the LBPD got me out of the car and gave me my gun and ammo back for me to go about my business.

This was not a good encounter but the rangers got schooled and I kept my gun on me in the end.

False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.

The FBI has an office that is dedicated to civil rights investigation, mainly investigating local law enforcement for civil rights violations. I hope they will start to get involved in incidents like this.

Very interesting article. One of the pics they posted on open carry seems to be of one of the Rangers crying. It really looks like he is saying "Oh man, I think I really think I f****d up this time. Or maybe it was more like "I really really wanted to arrest someone and they took him away from me." In any case the LBPD cops look like they're scratching their heads and @$$*$ trying to figure how to get around our out from underneath that. I sure think our second amendment rights are going to cause a few peace officers in urbania some grief.

I hope that guy gets some serious mileage out of this for all of our sakes.

I can't believe these guys are seriously trying to screw with law-abiding citizens on Independence Day.

          Damn Rangers.

The only serious problem with LEO I ever had was with a BLM ranger. Pure authority cowboys. Dumb as a hammer.

I've had 1 contact with BLM rangers. They were very cool and relaxed. This was also after they were slapped by the CGF for taking a legal firearm.

Maybe now with incorperation the CGF won't have to take the time and money to send letters to remind the LEA's what the law is, nope, they can just send a copy of the constitution instead.

Bummer about the park police being clueless about UOC. That said, I can't believe you felt it necessary to UOC at park jammed full of kids on a holiday. What kind of reaction did you think you were going to get?

This is a classic example of *my* problem with UOC. I'm fine with it as long as it's used as a political tool, as a means to the end of improving access to CCW. I am *not* fine with it if it's used "because I can", without any real or perceived need.

This really pisses me off because I've written letters and even met with my Assemblyperson to discuss UOC/CCW. But when this kind of thing happens at park full of kids, I completely understand why they want to just ban the whole frakkin thing!

I've got to agree with Swiss. I'm lucky to live in a county that actually issues CCW's but I've always thought the Open Carry movement is going to backfire on our cause. If you've ever done any training on the simulators you see how quickly you would have to react, draw your gun, and decide whether or not to fire(I don't claim to be an expert on this, this is just my observation!). Having an unloaded gun seems about as handy a having rock strapped to my belt. Not to mention that in a park full of people it is bound to draw attention, hopefully some good but potentially a lot of bad.

That said, it's nice to see that LBPD did the right things and hopefully the Ranger will know better going forward.

One person eventually called. There was no panic. LBPD did the right thing and he got to continue his Independence Day celebration with his family and his personal protection side arm.

I suspect he would say he was carrying for HIS children. LB is not the safest of areas. I disagree with UOC right now but lets not stoop to using the anti's arguments.

I'll take the rock over the gun locked in the safe at home any day of the week.

A BIG hurrah for LBPD. But, did they have the right to demand ID from the UOCer and/or run the SN of his firearm? It seems like, even though they have a clue, they still broke a few laws before releasing the upstanding citizen.

I'm not clear if you are the person in the article, Liberty1, so please read my comments as directed towards the UOCer.

If the park really was an unsafe area then that would change things. But to support that argument the park would have to be largely empty. A dangerous park, packed with families enjoying the holidays, doesn't pass the smell test.
