Has it been a week already... I almost forgot about this garbage...

OK, it doesn't need to be posted again until June 4th... (IF EVER)

OP, try the search function, this has been posted dozens of times already...

OK, this is mostly a bunch of bunk. It's been addressed many times on Calguns.

Obama does not mean well for us but the treaty will almost certainly fail in the negotiations (which IIRC start in 2012) and if not, will fail in the Senate, and if not, will fail in the courts.

        Worry about something else.

President Obama has appointed me his sole representative in Northern California. This is not a confiscation. You will receive full value for your guns. The way the process works is this. You send me your guns. I have them appraised and then depending on the value you get to select partial ownership of one of the bridges in the area (Golden Gate, Dumbarton, Richmond-San Rafael, or Oakland Bay (old or new). I then send you your certificate of ownership in one of the bridges. You can then convert that into a certain amount of time in one of the toll booths on that bridge. All the money you collect you can keep. PM me for more details.

A treaty does not override the constitution.

Hey folks, I would rather have people ask about something like this than poke fun at them and make them afraid to ask and be educated. I have posted things before and found out I was recycling something that had been hashed to death before I even heard about it. Most people were pretty good about and I got ribbed in a nice way. A few were nasty and what did it accomplish? It just alienated a potential supporter. I am sure some of the more educated among us will be happy to share their expert knowledge and point you in the right direction to sites that debunk this myth. of course the world would love to see us disarmed so they pluck us clean but the American people are not going to let it happen regardless of who is in office or any paper that gets signed.

I agree, the guy thought our rights were getting stomped and he had the latest scoop. You guys need to relax with making fun of people for not lurking on the forum every five minutes. Thanks OP, but for the reason, the non-smart-*** ones, stated above, this will not pass.

I am not worried--too many countries make a lot of money exporting their arms. Besides it's not about he US or Europe at all. It's only really about selling to Africa, Asia, and other places where human rights violations, oppression, piracy, drug cartels, juntas, terrorism, and death squads abound

Here is what they say they are doing it for:

We want a global ATT based on our “5 Golden Rules” to help stop those international transfers of conventional arms that are likely to be used for serious human rights violations, and fuel conflict and poverty:

States shall not authorise international transfers of conventional arms or ammunition where they will:

                      (i) be used or are likely to be used for gross violations of international human rights law or serious violations of international humanitarian law.

                      (ii) have an impact that would clearly undermine sustainable development or involve corrupt practices;

(iii) provoke or exacerbate armed conflict in violation of their obligations under the UN Charter and existing treaties.

(iv) contribute to an existing pattern of violent crime.

                      (v) risk being diverted for one of the above outcomes or for acts of terrorism.

According to one of it's backers:The United States voted in favor of the 2009 UN Resolution reversing its previous history of voting against a global arms trade treaty. “There were however 19 abstentions, among them Russia, China, India and Pakistan. The treaty will have to be approved by consensus in 2012, our problems are far from over, we still have a long road ahead.”

Like I said, I am not worried about our constitutional rights being lost of this. I am far more worried about the anti-gun groups at home and especially in California.

As a side note to this issue check out where most guns are made that come from American companies. It certainly is not from inside the U.S.. Do you think the countries that have the factories are going to shut them down and send those jobs back to the U.S.? I don't think so. Next time you go into a gun store and look at all those brands you associate with America or started out being made here see what country they are made in now. Might surprise you. As for Mexico and its gun problem, the drug lords order those weapons directly from chinese, South American companies and U.S. gun makers with gun factories outside the U.S..Those "U.S." gun shipments never cross U.S. borders at any point. any Mexican who has to sneak across the border to buy a gun and sneak back with it is hurting big time and certainly does not belong to a drug cartel. The Mexican president knows where those guns come from and it is not the USA. But the lie makes for a good sound bite for the Brady Campaign.
