    Registration Question

I would like to know hows does one find out the registration status of their firearms in a discrete way. Do you have to contact the DOJ Firearms division or is their another way to do it?. I believe I registered my firearms back in 2000 but I don't remember for sure. How would i find out the status of them. Your prompt replies will be appreciated.

    Firearms division FAQ

Can I get a list of the firearms for which I am listed as the purchaser, transferee, or owner?

Yes. To obtain a list of firearms listed in your name, send a letter requesting this information to the Automated Firearms Unit, P.O. Box 820200, Sacramento, CA 94203-0200. The letter must be signed, notarized, and include a photocopy of your photo ID card (ie., driver's license or DMV ID).

if he wanted to, he could through a little blurb in the letter that he was the victim of identity theft and wants to make sure that there's nothing "odd" on his report...

I'm not sure it's wise to ask about status of reg'd AWs unless you know you did and have some paperwork.

DOJ has been known to 'lose' AW regs thru typos, etc.

Let me ask you this - do you remember sending in a special card in 2000, listing the makes/models/details of generic AWs that you might own, along with a $20 fee? This does NOT count any paperwork you filled out at the dealer. Perhaps you could look at your bank records from 2000 and into summer of 2001 for a cancelled check from DOJ?

If you do remember this, then it's OK to ask. Otherwise, your rifles must be in compliant configurations.

About as discrete as you can get... it is a passive way of seeing if all of your guns are properly papered

I would keep any extraneous information out of the request. Why chance piqueing somebody's curiosity. If they ask (and they won't) you can always say that a credit card company told you their paperwork was lost and advised you to keep an eye out just in case.... I get one of those about every 6 or 8 months from various companies.
