Hmm it may be somewhere else. I know it exists, and they've been quietly selling fixed-mag CaliFALs somewhat longer than the OLL AR stuff.

Looks like this is far from over. Recent post from the thread at the Files.

"I have been informed that the DOJ wants DSA Arms to send them the original rifle, that was submitted at the time of first approval.

It will take about a week for them to get it. Then they will obviously "reassess" it.

Considering that it has already taken a week for them to make this decision, then, with leftist former Governor Jerry Brown as our new Attorney General, I suspect that they will try to find a "mistake" in the original DOJ assessment that first allowed this rifle to be sold here in Cali.

I'm allowing the store to keep my money, but, with the political party that both created and maintained the Jim Crow Laws, and who's majority's having voted against the Civil Rights Acts of '64 and '68, being the majority in Cali, my level of hope is low.

BTW, DSA cannot tell me which Cali dealers have their guns, as they tell me that they "have no stocking dealers"."

Look at the bright side, the NRA had a hand in getting the RobArms M96 into CA, it followed the letter of the law and so does your FAL.

If it doesnt break the SB23 rules you are going to get one, plain and simple.

They cant change the rules without changing the laws first.

I currently live in California so I am interested in the 10-round fixed magazine SA58 rifles. How is the magazine “fixed”? I often travel to states that permit detachable magazines. I frequently bring one of my fixed magazine AR-type rifles and use an allen key to back out a set screw thereby allowing use of detachable magazines. Is the method used to fix the magazine in the SA58 rifle a permanent alteration? Please understand that I am not looking for an easy way to circumvent existing California law. At $1800, I want to know if the rifle can be restored to a detachable magazine configuration prior to purchase because I may not always live in California.

And here is the exact body of their reply:

The fixed magazine is a permanent modification, which can be returned to original configuration by a DSA gunsmith. It is not something that you can alter on your own. We do not give out information on how that conversion is done for various reasons. The rifle can be restored to detachable magazine configuration if you move to another state.
While I would consider the method DSA uses to create a fixed magazine as a permanent change, I don't agree that it's something a person can't undo on their own - albeit with a little effort & knowledge.

I know companies don't want folks monkeying around with their guns and causing all sorts of problems, only to tell the manufacturer "Your gun is defective - you stink", but DSA also told me that replacing the flash hider with a muzzle brake was a difficult matter handled properly by only the factory. That "unscrew, screw" procedure was tough, but I managed.
