BATFE USING FUD TO ENFORCE NON-EXISTING LAW!

Texas is cash-and-carry for long rifles, FFL needed only for handguns, right?- Rich

As far as I know, private firearm sales are not regulated in TX (Someone correct me if I'm wrong). BATFE is requesting(read: demanding) that people comply with a non-existent Fed/State/Local law to go through an FFL for private firearm transfers and the gun show promoters are going along (read: intimidated) with it.Constitutionally, officials cannot license or register a fundamental right.

It looks like it was only a "request". Kind of like when an LEO asks if he can have a look around.
Most people comply with this type of thing without even knowing they are voluntarily giving up their rights.Comment

Austin PD and/or Travis Co. Sheriffs may have something to do with this, and may somehow be able to put pressure on SAXET Shows - maybe the venue has a "must cooperate with all LE requests" clause.
Some have speculated that moving to Round Rock area/Williamson County would be more favorable.
I don't see it as a huge problem because you can just wink & nod and do the transfer an hour later in Denny's parking lot.

Yup. When I was in the process of becoming an officer (never happened do to an injury) that was one of the first things explained to me. They said that 99% of the time if you ask to search someones car or house they will agree not knowing that they have the option to say no. In all the ride-alongs I went on only one guy knew his stuff and declined. He was riding his bike around at 1am in a bad part of town. We stopped and asked to see his ID which he replied "No, I've done nothing illegal. Am I free to go." The officer I was with just smiled and apologized for bothering him and let him go. He just wanted to see if he had been drinking but most people we stopped were so freaked out they would have consented to a full cavity search if asked.Comment

Neat Texas law: You get to skip the background check when buying from an FFL if you have a CCW.
Then again, buying PPT, there is no background check required for anything.

However... it sounds like this is some heavy FUD with its origin in an attempt to force all gunshow attendees and exhibitors to have sales tax licenses at a certain show out this way. Happened a few months ago, and it went over like a lead balloon. Nobody was getting into the show until the lawyers showed up (TSRA? I can't remember) and schooled the bureaucrats.Last edited by M. Ok, I found info on this on Texas Gun Talk. A lot of heat, but no fire. No solid info and these guys would know if anybody would.
If I have time, I'll call Austin PD tomorrow and see what I can see. Till then, keep an eye on this thread: http://www.texasguntalk.com/forums/a...tin-shows.htmlOriginally posted by Deadbolt"We're here to take your land for your safety"
