Johnson valley desert shooting legal???

Im goin camping with some friends in the johnson valley ohv area and wanted to bring some guns, but I was just on a website that said its shotgun only, no pistols or rifles, but thats all it said, does anyone know what types of shotgun ammo are ok, like can I shoot slugs?? Thanks for any info.

That area is south of the 40, so it may very well be Shotgun only.

FYI, that place is still out in the middle of no where.

yea it says it shotgun only here, http://www.atvsource.com/articles/ar...california.htm, just doesn't specify the type of ammo, Ive read that some places say shot can be no bigger then half the diameter of the bore. But this website doesnt say that so does that mean slugs are ok.

Shotgun only. Shot cannot be be larger than half the diameter size of the barrel.

Same here... I'm headin out for a week in Feb and deff bringin my mossy. I think 00 should be fine.

00buck is good to go, 12ga Bore is .729 and 00 is .30

Correct me if I am wrong, it is legal to hunt out there with centerfire rifles, correct? I always thought no but have had a a game warden tell me otherwise.

I thought this as well, being that hunting is not target shooting. But, as per BLM, it says projectiles cannot be larger than half of the barrel diameter.

With how many people are out there all the time zipping around on bikes, quads, 4x4's, etc. I don't know that there would be anything to hunt anyways. Whatever you do with firearms out there be very careful to use a back stop that someone isn't going to ride over or past. I prefer to go where there aren't so many people to shoot.

There used to be a sign right near where Boone road dropped on to the lakebed that said " Shotguns only" there was also one on Bessemer mine right near the front lakebed. Both of them got shot to pieces.
