    AMD 65 CA legal?

I'm confused about CA's assault weapon laws. Is an AMD 65 CA legal as long as it has a bullet button installed? Also is it legal to have a side folding stock?

Pinned / welded stock, because folded it won't be 30" oal. Otherwise good to go with a "fixed" magazine.

It will need to have a 16" barrel. If the barrel is less than 16", it will need a permanently attached muzzle device to bring it to 16". To meet the 30" OAL length when folded Cali requirement, you could attach an extended muzzle device or pin/weld the stock as bigcalidave noted. The fixed magazine will need to be 10 rounds or less.

The parts kit has a muzzle break to extend the barrel to 16". With this break is it going to be long enough to keep the folding stock?

No - it needs to be about 9 inches long.

          ALSO - it's "BRAKE."

            A AMD65 has a 12 1/4" barrel so, the brake needs to be a hair longers than 2 3/4".

Shhhhh. The prices of AMD65 kits will go up if too many people realize this. Hell, you do not even need to orry about 922(r) when building a pistol. So, it's cheaper and less trouble to build them.

I'm not too sure about that in this case...

A friend of mine in WA bought an AMD-65 from somebody or other online. We took the rifle out to the range, along with several other guns, and my Hungarian brother-in-law. While I was shooting my M1A my brother-and-law approached and asked me to look at the AMD-65 in the rack, worried that he had broken it. The cheesy weld on the muzzle brake had broken and the brake was wobbling around on the barrel.

My buddy called the vendor, and they said "People usually want to make these into SBRs..."

He sent it back and they welded it on like the meant it, since SBR is not an option in WA.

Anyhow, at least that particular AMD-65 definitely had a "muzzle break"

Glad he caught the problem in time. A broken muzzle brake (aka muzzle break) can cause serious injury if it ends up getting out of alignment.

Yeah, I'm glad too. My friend hadn't ever fired it yet (it was still pretty new) and we just put it away after we saw that.

LOL - no - I meant that to be 30 inches long when folded, and AMD needs a barrel extension about 9 inches long. . .

I decided to keep the folding stock, the forward grip, AND the detachable magazines on mine.

I just made them straight pull guns by bobbing the head off the gas pistons.

I have spare carriers should I ever decide to travel to a free state.

As a bolt-action rifle, it still needs to have at least a 16" barrel and at least 26" overall length when folded so it's not an SBR under PC12020. Also, PC12020 includes a constructive possession clause for SBRs. Thus, even with the gas system disabled, it'll still need a permanently-attached barrel extension.
