The 30,000 deaths figure is based on suicides and murders. People not shooting themselves brings the number down to about 12,000 to 13,000 per year.

Yes. And I assume that people bent on killing themselves would find a way somehow. Japan has almost no guns and a high suicide rate.

Anyone wonder how much further that number could be reduced if we repealed prohibition and stopped people from killing each other over marketing disputes for selling mind altering substances? Oh, yeh -- we did that already, but only for beer, wine and gin.

If these *****holes were really concerned about "gun violence" and saving "just one child" they would advocate repeal of our stupid drug laws, which inspire violations by the gov't of our 4th, 5th and 6th Amendments, and which lay a foundation for violating our 2nd Amendment rights through erosion of our right to be free from unreasonable search and seizure.

Yes, treating drugs as a medical issue (with medically-available drugs for addicts) would save a lot more than "just one child" and it would save more lives than gun control law ever did or could do.

As I've long ago observed, gun control has nothing to do with crime, and in fact may be sponsored by criminal lobbies, just like drug laws are sponsored by criminal lobbies.

I like how they accuse the gun lobby of using fear to advance their agenda. Because telling people "vote for this law or your child may be next to die" is not playing on fears.
