    Anti-Gun Show article in California

Write-in to the Vallejo Times Herald about too many gun shows. I'm going to write my own comments and give her a piece of my mind. I doubt they will let me append to her article. Would be nice if a few of you joined in.

I am concerned about the alarming number of gun shows scheduled for Solano County in 2007.

I'm sure we are all aware of the rising level of senseless gun violence in America. I understand that many citizens feel the need to own guns for protection. However, scheduling gun shows for March, June, September, October and November is a bit excessive. All shows will be held in one location - at the Solano County Fairgrounds in Vallejo.

I haven't even mentioned the gun shows to be held throughout the rest of California. One of the biggest problems with having so many gun shows in one area is that there may be a shift in gun violence from cities like Richmond and Oakland to cities like Vallejo and Fairfield. Although I don't live in Vallejo, I am still concerned with what happens in other parts of the state. I encourage other Solano County residents to become more active in stopping gun violence. I have recently become involved with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence by starting a chapter in West Contra Costa County. I believe there should be a Solano County chapter.

We can choose to either be a part of the problem through our inaction or be a part of the solution by increasing peace in all of our cities.

EDIT: Its a Letter to the Editor. Here is the rules to submit to them. I doubt they will take just my letter. Also Im not from Vallejo.

    Our Letter Policy
Letters to the Times-Herald must carry the writer's first and last name (initials will not be accepted), signature, home address and daytime phone number. Anonymous letters will not be published. (The writer's address and phone number will not be published.)

Letters considered libelous, racist or containing personal attacks will not be published.

The Times-Herald reserves the right to reject any letter but will attempt to publish a representative sample of opinion on each issue that produces large volumes of mail.

Send letters to Readers' Opinions, Times-Herald, P.O. Box 3188, Vallejo, CA 94590. Fax: 643-0128, or e-mail to opinion@timesheraldonline.com

Please do not fax and mail the same letter. Submissions sent in all capital letters will not be accepted. Handwritten letters are discouraged, and must be legible. E-mailed letters are preferred.

If you have a question or comment about letters or the Opinion page, call Managing Editor Jack F.K. Bungart at 553-6836.

Because of the heavy volume, letters could take up to two weeks to be published after being received. Letters of fewer than 250 words will be given preference. Longer letters are subject to condensation. Letters of more than 800 words are less likely to be published. Some unpublished letters, and longer versions of published letters may appear on our Web site at www.timesheraldonline.com .

In most circumstances, letters by the same author will not be published within two weeks - or longer - of each other.

Thank you letters to businesses, organizations or individuals may be given less priority in publishing, and subjected to stricter word limits.

Look at the tyranny of party -- at what is called party allegiance, party loyalty -- a snare invented by designing men for selfish purposes -- and which turns voters into chattles, slaves, rabbits, and all the while their masters, and they themselves are shouting rubbish about liberty, independence, freedom of opinion, freedom of speech, honestly unconscious of the fantastic contradiction... I never wanted to own a handgun until after 1993, the year I lived in Vallejo.

just an unimformed, imflamed do-gooder. Gun shows suck in CA and the 10 day wait still applies etc, etc.

Somebody who's local should write in and inform her that the gun show will be 10 days long gone before any guns transacted there actually make it to their respective owners hand. And even then, the owner will be picking the gun up at their LOCAL Federally Licensed dealer, after their Criminal Background Check has been returned showing that they're Clear. You might also inquire as to whether or not "Carole" last name not given, has ever submitted herself to the scrutiny of the authorities simply to engage in a lawful retail transaction; and further how she would feel about having to to be examined just to exercise her constitutional rights.

The fact that she has become involved with the Brady Campaign pretty much confirms that she is very under/mis/dis-informed and should keep her little letters to her gun-grabber-wanna-be self and just enjoy the illusion of security. I am sure that phone to dial 911 will keep her very safe when there is a criminal coming into her room at night with a knife.

Well said. Imagine if you had to get a "background check" if you wanted to exercise your right to free speech or worship a certain religion. I'll bet she would change her hippy tune then. So many hippies in CA

This lady sounds like a cook, as soon as I read brady campaign I was convinced...card carrying moron.

The basic premise of her argument is "guns cause crime, therefore fewer guns equals less crime."

It's an idiotic argument to begin with.

            Not worth wasting time on.

Not to mention she probably has NO freakin idea what gun shows are like here in Cali...I bet after she goes to one she'd want to ban beef jerky and cheap jewelry.

              I will vote for a donkey-sex maniac if he's pro-gun.

Criminal: "Dang, I feel the need to commit some gun crimes and I have to wait all the way until March for a gun show! What's an old G pop to do when he neeeds to pop cap in yo azz!?"

Brady-buncher: "See, by limiting gun shows we have reduced crime"

Uh, but why would someone need to wait for a gun show when they can go down to the local gun shop which is open 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year? It's a shame that there is such a willingness in the media to spread this sort of baseless hysteria.
