    CA FFLs & employees: please do NOT rely on out-of-state vendors for info

    [If you know what this refers to please DO NOT post/speculate on who/what the situation is.]

    Just a word of warning to pass onto CA FFLs and their employees. (Unfortunately, it's probably not relevant to Calguns FFLs since they know their stuff, but....)

    PLEASE DO NOT RELY ON NON-CALIF. FFLs/VENDORS FOR INFORMATION ABOUT LEGALITY OF THEIR PRODUCTS IN CALIFORNIA.

    Please know & understand the laws/regulations yourself. Don't be afraid to ask here.

    As the message crosses the border into other states, sometimes it gets mangled or only partially understood - and novice gunshop staff may end up believing a confident, authoritative voice over the phone - even though that party has never seen a complete suite of CA gun laws nor understands their interplay.

    This is especially true in matters of
    • Handgun Roster vs. "unsafe handguns"
    • AW listings of makes/models;
    • AW names vs features;
    • what is or isn't an AW 'characteristic feature';
    • details of single-action & single-shot exemptions.

    Mistakes can be costly even if no legal issues ensue - buybacks, exchanges, returns and re-DROSing all take up time and effort and diminish customer confidence in you.

    There is a reason for this being posted; fortunately it got cleaned up quickly & effectively. And please don't ask/speculate.
