    AB962 What if?

What if it does not get vetoed? Does the law go into effect immediately or like sometime in July of 2010 like they usually do? How much time would we have to make orders?

I have called with my no vote but somehow I just do not have much faith in Arnie to do the right thing.

    From the bill
This bill would, subject to exceptions, commencing February 1,
    2011,
require handgun ammunition vendors to obtain a thumbprint and
other information from ammunition purchasers, as specified. A
violation of these provisions would be a misdemeanor.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

This is purely speculative but if it does become law, based on past experience, even though the bill goes into effect 2/11, we'll probably start seeing effects from it right away. Some panic buying, a few retailers will stop shipping any ammo here and who knows what else.

In other words, keep calling every day until he vetos the thing!

Ive heard it will be challenged almost immediately, probably by the NRA or CRPA possibley with the assistance of Calguns, and then will be wrapped up in court for the next few years unable to be implemented. anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong as i am in no way an expert at this kind of stuff.

I would expect that at the very least the Reno gun shows will have highly increased activity around the Miwall booths from Californians coming to strip the ammo shelves bare.

Shortly thereafter, watch for weepy hand-wringing news stories from California reporters blaming Nevada's non-restrictive ammo purchasing laws for causing all sorts of violent mayhem on California's streets that are awash in the blood of your children, and all that kind of stuff.

Personally, I'm seriously looking at a commercial pad near Verdi NV on I-80 for the grand opening of 'Pvt. Cowboy's Ammo Hut' catering to all of your ammunition needs. Maybe we'll serve fried chicken and waffles too.

Keep the pressure up. I made six calls this morning and got through almost everytime. This tells me calls have slowed down. Snail mail also.

Each of the several dozen threads here on AB962 has noted the Bill's date of implementation is Feb 2011.

Yea I know, I just did not have time to go through 89 pages of posts to find it. That's good that it's 1.5 years out if no veto, plenty of time to stock up and push it in court.

Will you rent LMG's at Private Cowboys?

We are exploring ways of stopping it if signed, and there are indeed conflict with Federal laws.

This fact will be brought up to the Governor thru an effective communications path.

I'm confident that if this does not get vetoed, it'll be thrown out in court.

HOWEVER! If we are totally screwed and this does become law, I still don't see an end to mail order sales. AB962 does allow for private mail order sales if one possesses an 03 FFL (C&R) and a COE. This is no different from the Illinois FOID (Firearm Owner ID) card which allows them to purchase ammo through mail order. A copy of the FOID (or in our case, an 03 FFL and COE) would be placed on file with the vendor and ammo is shipped to your door. Sure there will be vendors out there not willing to do it, but there are still Capitalist Patriots out there willing to make a dollar.

In fact, here's what AIM Surplus has on their website.

-ILLINOIS CUSTOMERS: Must have current copy of FOID card and State Photo Identification, No sales of ammunition and/or magazines to the City of Chicago.
