    Calguns.net and the 501 exemption?

I am a member of SEIU and would like to donate my dues to this organization.
I won't go into the reasons but I need information that does't have "guns" in the donation process.
If this is not possible then I will do the deed; I'm just trying to get our union to back our true membership not the one they buy into.
I'll be calling HR tomorrow to pull out and I am trying to smooth the initial process into a debate about the philosophy of politics and the behavior of the union and the believes of the members. I'm not alone.
Please post information that will guide me (us) through the process.

    Thanks, Mac

    Mac,
I believe that there are members of PECG that are currently doing what you want to do. As far as I know, the PECG members had NO problem in filling out the paperwork for the donation process. I will ask about it and try to get back to you.

One thing to remember is that calguns.net does not have a 501 exemption.

The Calguns Foundation does have a 501(c)(3) exemption. http://www.calgunsfoundation.org/ind...-as-tax-exempt

        You can donate to "CGF".

How does one go about this? The county forces me to be a member of SEIU to care for my own disabled brother. Needless to say I don't mind pissing off some union folk to donate those dues to CGF, if possible.

Can all union members have thier dues donated to a 501(c)(3) or is this strictly a SEIU thing? I am a member of the UTU Local 1200 and would love to donate my dues to the CGF. how does this work?

Calguns, Inc (owns calguns.net) is a for-profit corporation.
The Calguns Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit.

I've been looking into this since reading this thread. So far it appears that:

                1. You must claim a religious objection to policies of your union.
                2. Your local union chapter president has discretion over what charity you may opt to donate your money to.

Since I can't really claim a religious objection to SEIU's politics (only rational objections...funny that those don't count) and there's no way that the president of the Santa Cruz chapter of SEIU would let me give money to CGF it looks like I'm up a proverbial creek.

I don't know... if SEIU doesn't properly support your God-given rights as defined in the constitution, that looks like a religious objection to me...
