    Blank adapted question

First and foremost: THIS QUESTION IS ENTIRELY HYPOTHETICAL! NONE OF MY FUTURE ACTIONS WILL BE DICTATED BY THE RESPONSES ON THIS THREAD! BECAUSE I AM NOT PLANNING TO DO ANYTHING RELATED TO MY QUESTION!

Now that's out of the way. I have a hypothetical question.

Would the application (permanent or otherwise) of a blank adapter to an AW type rifle change its need for a mag-lock device? For example, if I had a AR-15 with an A2 flashider and I attached a GI blank adapter to it (permanent or otherwise) would it be exempt from fixed-mag rules?

    Let's assume it's off-list.

It's still a semiauto, centerfire rifle and if a detachable magazine were present I think it'd still be an AW.

And even if it were handwavingly defendable, a bad judge may well allow it to be considered. I've heard of a FAL case in LA area where removal of bolt carrier rendered rifle inoperative - and that was ruled a "broken rifle" and not an AW.

To differentiate from AW status, clear and convincing mods should be made which result in a working rifle "outside the AW envelope".
