    Sig556

Anyone know if the Sig 556 can be disassembled to a California configuration that could be shipped into the state? I have seen PTRs sent without the PG, Stock, and FH into the state and then configured to be California compliant. Usually with a fixed 10 round mag kit designed by one of our fellow Calgunner's. I was wondering if the Sig 556 could be acquired the same way? The mag release seems similar to that of the AR, so I'm thinking that a prince50 "like" kit could do the trick.

It seems like this might be a good time to pick one of these bad boys up since it wont be "listed". What do you guys think?

    Thanks

I see no reason why this could not be done in this fashion. Pin the stock, use a MM grip or if it will fit modify it, and remove the flash hinder. Go for it, I would if I had the $$.

The Sig 556 can be disassembled just like an AR-15 can.

However, for the Sig 556, the UPPER receiver, not the lower, is the registered firearm. This makes importing of a completed rifle easier, since you simply need to remove the upper from the lower - you don't need to remove the pistol grip, and buttstock.

Looking at a mid/late January ETA

I've been wondering about this too. I've found other threads on here regarding some of your questions:

Seems like their tag line of "The Time Has Come." should have a disclaimer of "Not Quite Just Yet." since their ship date has came & went. Regardless, I'll probably have to get one too.
Hope for the best, expect the worse... Does that make me an optimistic pessimist?!

I think it's going to be available soon. I was browsing through an inventory list of one distributor last night as I was getting ready to make an order, they have three SKUs for the rifles and a bunch for other parts, but no inventory. I don't recall seeing those SKUs in previous inventory sheets, but they may have been there.

They have shipped, there are already threads on sigforum from people who have taken delivery. It's just that demand is so high that very few dealers have gotten them.

Correct.. The dealers who will be getting first shipment had to buy into the Sig top tier (don't know what the official title was) program at SHOT 2006, and even then they only get one or two of them for first shipment. They should be coming in just.. about... now...
