It sure is. If nothing else, it means they are aware of how important gun rights are to a lot of people.

Can you imagine this being said when the Federal AWB was in force, by either Clinton or Bush? Progress has been made.
Mention the Deacons for Defense and Justice and make both left and right wingnuts squirm

You guys are way too gullible. Of course the White House supports the right to arms outside Obama events. They do so because it's a simple and effective polarizer that will help them draw the line between the good guys and the loonies.

Good lord! I think I see a bright light!
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said people are entitled to carry weapons outside such events if local laws allow it. "There are laws that govern firearms that are done state or locally," he said. "Those laws don't change when the president comes to your state or locality."
          Translation:

Robert Gibbs, the White house press secretary, said people are entitled to carry weapons outside such events if local laws allow it. "This administration would take your guns away in a heart beat, but there is that irksome Second Amendment issue. Guns are solidly and historically linked to this successful nation, to such an extent that we dare not do anything about it, at least not overtly."
