Obama and executive order

Hey everyone I did a search and couldn't find anything so I am posting my question here.

One of my fellow leo's was telling me the other day that when Obama was on ABC selling his universal health care he had mentioned that he was considering signing an executive order re-instating the federal assault weapon ban.

I haven't been able to find anything to confirm this and not alot of time to really research it. Can anyone confirm this?

You can't be arrested per an executive order. It's FUD.

The President cant use Executive Order to make law.

Can't happen and if it did it'd be slapped down fast, and he'd do it if he could.

But even Obama can't be a dictator no matter how reverent his minions may be.

Presidents can make EOs that can deal with matters of import/export and customs/immigration; the Predident's authority is fairly unconstrained there and has been since the founding of the USA.

Bush & Clinton did some import bans on guns. Eventually Jolene Unsoeld (D-WA) came up with her bill that became 18 USC 922(r), the "sporting purposes domestic content" stuff that we've managed to game around.
