New registration window opening up today till April?

Read on local news, AW registration is opened up again. Anyone have details, didn't have time to research? Who's planning on doing the AW registration route and why or why not?

Individuals with eligible bullet-button assault weapons were required to register their firearms with the Department of Justice by June 30, 2018. A federal court (Sharp v. Becerra, E.D. Cal. Mar. 29, 2021) re-opened the registration window for 90 days, starting on January 13, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. PST and ending on April 12, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. PDT.

Didn't opt to do it then, and sure as Newsom hates the 2nd Amendment, I wouldn't do it now - even if I could.

If you were one of those who attempted to register at the time, but the website/tech/connection failed due to the DOJ registration scheme portal not being properly created or serviced by the very anti-2nd Amendment sharts appointed to run it ( because we KNOW there is no lack of funding for it ) - then consider yourself having been gifted a '2nd' chance - you were protected from your own phobia, stupidity, and FUD.

You enjoyed a heap of luck that day, whether you realize it or not.

Now if you try registering this time around, I guess there is no amount of luck that can help stop such a buffoon from their own bungling idiocy.

THIS IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WITH "BulletButton" rifles...

          - that became AWs by decree ~2016
          - with reg period open 2017 - mid 2018
          - who tried & failed to register online due to DOJ's computer system issues;
          - whose guns/receivers were acquired by end of 2016.

If your DROS date or moving-into-California date is ON or AFTER 1 Jan 2017
do NOT register; you are not eligible and can expect a negative reaction. If this is your situation, instead of registering immediately convert your gun to 'featureless' configuration or true fixed magazine configuration.

An end cap, Sparrow grip and rubber stock fixer is easier and you can still sell it here. That costs about $40.

Someone needs to post that Admiral Ackbar "IT'S A TRAP!" meme.

I might not be up to date on the latest, but how come you added the word "true" in describing a fixed magazine?
Was the aspects of what a "fixed magazine" is redefined?

My current understanding was "fixed" meant the magazine could not be removed without opening the action of the "assault weapon".

                  of the "assault weapon".
Before SB880 (i.e, pre 2016) a BulletButton device made a magazine 'nondetachable' - and in essence it was a fixed
magazine - or rather, not appreciably differentiable from a true fixed magazine. Given that, there would be a risk
using a legally-possessed hicap mag in a nondetachablesituation on a semiauto centerfire rifle with evil features
because this could trigger the tertiary definition of a rifle-based AW.

After SB880 was live (post ~2016), semiauto centerfire rifles with evil features & BulletButtons are considered
assault weapons also, and were banned/grandfathered-in-with-registration.

SB880 created the new fixed magazine definition - as not just requiring tool for removal, but requiring disassembly of
                  action, etc.

Thus, there's now an articulable legal difference between the former (pre-2016) "non-detachable" magazine [via
BulletButton] and the new 'fixed magazine' definition (which requires more sophisticated locking requiring action
                  opening etc.)
