Met Toni Atkins Running for State Assembly

OK we had a street-fair here on Saturday in San Diego met a candidate for the assembly. First time went by her booth she wasn't there so I asked the ones staffing it what their candidate's opinion on 2A was. Well they had no clue and Toni Atkins wasn't there yet. I said I would go back. So Nomadd and I finished walking the street-fair and went back to see if Ms Atkins was there yet. Ms. Atkins was there. I asked her what her stance was. Her comment was I was raised around guns. I have also seen terrible accidents happen in the home with guns. But never got a definite yes or no on her stance. She did state that she is against extremes on either side.

She then went on to say that she thought that this state was pro gun control. It took all I had to not laugh hysterically at that statement. Then went on to say how progressive our state is. I got the feeling she was doing the sitting on the fence and not upset potential voters.

"I have also seen terrible accidents happen in the home with guns."

And terrible accidents happen in homes with all kinds of other things too! And her point is?

Correct, no need to turn away a potential voter by taking a stand. Given her interests and that she worked on Kehoe's staff I would guess she's nowhere close to being a friend of ours. She looks like a typical head in the clouds "progressive" shill for big labor and the same old and failed lefty policy initiatives.

Never trust a politician who won't take a firm stance on an issue, and talks all around it.

              GuyW,

That indeed may turn out to be increasingly useful for folks like her.

Any antigun stance can be turned into anti-Pink Pistol stance, and the PPs have some 'agreeable personalities' that are hard to disrespect without causing drama on their side.

Well the fact that she wouldn't give me a straight answer made me nervous. Although I did get her to look at AB 962 and she sounded horrified about that now granted it won't do a damn bit of good but we shall see.

                  Politicians.

California has different political climates depending on where you are at.

We must adjust how we ask questions accordingly.

                  Most people support "gun regulation".

Things like you can't shoot your guns in residential neighborhoods at 2am on a week night, banning gun sales to felons.

We need to work on re wording how we ask questions and we have to engage in public relations ourselves.

Alot of people view that it is okay to have "sporting arms" or "arms for self defense". Those same people don't see why we should have "assault weapons".

Until we tag that our "Gun rights" exist to make sure we have "all of our other rights", we have an uphill battle.

                  Nicki

Toni is anti-gun and anti-hunting. She was just being a politician.

Toni is running for the 76th Assembly District seat, which is traditionally Democrat held, in an increasingly Democrat heavy district, representing the greater San Diego metro area. So it's no wonder she is taking a "progressive" stance on guns. She would be unelectable in that district otherwise.
