If all the answers advising you against it seem inadequate, and you're insistent on definitive descriptions, let me suggest that you contact:the original question was what are my rights, what can i be charged with. most cruise vessels are registered to another country, but i am an american... and will be traveling in international waters and the waters of other nations.... hence the confusion and my request for help here, i have gotten alot of advice, but no legal definition.

I think landlubber law has bled over somewhat, but historically the captain was expected and obliged to shoot anyone who threatened the vessel and could not easily be put into chains, if that tells you what the roots of the Law of the Sea are. And in most cases the captain would have been backed up no matter what he did.
Though not always (and here I digress away from any kind of relevance to the thread)--I know of one case where a successful mutiny was carried out over starvation rations for the crew while the officers ate in luxury, and the crew manned the vessel and obeyed every order for the remainder of the voyage except they decided how the food stores were doled out.
When they got to San Francisco (I think it was) the captain of course demanded they be thrown in jail, but the authorities laughed at him. The account I read said they still looked so emaciated the court pretty much decided that it was probably justified. Except for two crewmen who ran instead of waiting to hear what the verdict was--flight was assumed to be evidence of guilt and they were tossed in jail.
Back on topic, without a solid knowledge of the current state of affairs and the exact laws of the flagging country, I would assume I have no rights whatsoever on board a vessel in international waters. It's safer that way.

I just got back from a cruise to Alaska and in passing one of the ships crew said they caught a guy trying to bring a loaded 9mm on board. We departed from SF and I have no idea if he had a CCW. Lets just say he missed the boat. I did board the boat several times with my open assist Benchmade. I put it in the tray with my cell phone and other metal items and it boarded 4 times. Finally they did take it on the 5th attempt but I got it back after we docked.Comment

I've carried beer in cans on board many times in my backpack. Never had a problem at any port.
