    2009-2010 FEDERAL Gun Bills

Even though I counsel patience and waiting for actual bills, vigilance is still required - because here are some bills.

This thread is just to catalog the continuing efforts of the anti-freedom crowd in the 111th Congress.

I'll add newest items at the top.

On the other hand, not all bills are anti-freedom. That said, these don't necessarily have a good chance to become law, any more than the 'bad' bills do.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

      There's a difference between

understanding there are politicians who will use the issue for their own perceived advantage with their constituents - I think Gillibrand of New York is the perfect example of that - as well as a few who are simply irrational on any gun issue,

      and

determining that there are enough votes in either or both Houses to get these bills passed.

Look, for instance, at S 843. The list of cosponsors there makes me pay a lot of attention to that bill, because that's approximately the entire Usual Gang of Idiots, mostly very senior Senators. We can track what the Judiciary Committee thinks it will be doing at http://judiciary.senate.gov/hearings/, but there's nothing about any bill (or topic of any of these bills) in May, and no schedule at all beyond May (as of today).

Similarly, the House Juciciary Committee schedule is at

The Committee appears to be ignoring HR 45 (but of course, can always come back to it), as expected from the way the identical bill was treated last session.

Not if we can't convince Dem/Lib posters here that voting for the likes of Feinstein & Boxer & Pelosi is bad for 2A ...

again, I think you are confusing the political will/momentum to see a bill from start through congress, to the desk of the president and signed into law by Obama and company with individuals introducing gun control bills regardless of their chance of success. This kind of thing has been going on as long as I can remember.

I have yet to see anyone here say there won't be a gun control bill introduced this year. I have also not seem anyone post that IF a gun control bill is introduced we have nothing to worry about it won't pass. But some have interpreted comment to mean this.

What I have seen is people post and say the odds are not good. chances are slim. bigger fish to fry. Things are not as bleak as 1994. we have better resources compared to 1994, we have hope this time etc. in response to the "sky is falling" and "game over" posts.

          Big difference between the two.

The fact that we need to watch closely for the inevitable control bills and give our 110% best to defeat them as early as possible has never changed. This needed to be done with Bush as President. It needs to be done with Obama as President. It will need to be done with whoever Obama is followed by when his term(s) are over.

Our next move will be Take back the House & Senate in 10 (and make it a little more even in amount of GOP State reps & State Senators compared to dems)

Yes, there are some - let me go back through my NRA emails and I'll add them to the first post in a day or so.

                    Bump for the 'good' bills.

I don't pretend to be complete in this list - there are things like the Coburn amendment to the credit card bill (which would restore National Parks CCW via law, replacing the stopped regulatory change from the last administration) that I don't have.
