I don't know about the AWB. Didn't they get slammed the last time they did this?

they got slammed because it passed and paid for it dearly. i don't think they'll try it again. but then again look at the speaker of the house. what could happen could be from total registration of all firearms and a license to posses and use ammuntion. who knows.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

All of the above that they can get away with.
My wife does not vote. She could not understand why I was so ticked off the morning after the elections. I tried to explain to her that she was part of the problem but that just netted me a night on the couch

If they do go for an AWB, this time they'll know not to compromise and allow a sunset. They allowed a sunset last time because they were sure it'd be renewed, and it wasn't.

This time, there will be no sunset and they'll go ahead and take the fallout in the short term, in pursuit of their long term goal: total disarmament.

I don't think they'll push anything. Gun control - oops, the term is now "gun SAFETY" (WTF!?!) - was a huge non-issue. The main reason for pushing gun control was to get more votes (not that there aren't some of them that truly believe in it, but I think most don't).

I voted for a more insidious plot, though I do not know what it may be. Perhaps they will make the AW ban look more innocuous so it will be more easily passed, maybe they will tie it to a prominent bill so it will just coast on through as someone has previously stated. They will do something for sure and the Demoncrats will use all their cunning to get it passed. Molon Labe I say.

To pass the senate, the Dems need 51 votes. One of those 51 is Democrat Senator Elect Jim Webb from Virginia. A combat vet, he has an "A" NRA rating.

Nothing truly bad will get through the Senate or a Bush veto on the gun side.

Maybe they will pass another AWB and while inconvenient, it might actually prove to be a good thing.

The last one was a disaster. It cost a lot politically and also accomplished one other thing: the ban did NOTHING. It can now be argued successfully that the ban was wholy ineffective, and there in lies the silver lining.

In order to be effective, a new ban will have to dig way deeper into the 2nd and that will get this issue to the US Supreme Court. The libs do not want ANY firearms case making it there as a single ruling could effectively quash their overall plans of disarming the populace real quick.

A favorable ruling from SCOTUS and then we have strong grounds to defend from in the future.

If they get a Dem president in 08 and strengthen their numbers in Congress, watch out! For now, probably not much.
