I've been around here in CA all my life, lived in Sac region since 1968 (okay, I was only 8) but never knew the first part of the history revealed in this presentation. I found it fascinating and a lot of it excited me, and a lot of it pissed me off.
My takeaways:
- the Black Panthers pushed too far (even if right)
- gun control in CA was born of racism
- no one much thought about the individual right prior to 1967 because owning and using guns was normal in a huge proportion of citizens
- those guys who challenged the NRA in 1977 are my heroes
- Heller's dedication to the cause was fearless
Give it a listen if have about an hour and 10 minutes:
