Jury voire dire - gun ownership

Curious here as I saw some links on other forums where during the jury duty selection they were asked if they possessed or owned guns and how many guns.

Anyone have that experience in CA/Fed courts for jury selection?

Interested in any answers to bypass answering it while still remaining truthful that anyone has used recently?

Was not asked if I owned any guns, but they did ask if I was a member of any organization that was trying to change laws in California. I told them I was a member of the NRA and the CRPA hoping they would excuse me, but they didn't.

I was dismissed when the defense asked if anyone was an NRA member. Drive by shooting case.

I've had the question asked two different times. It was designed to find out whether or not you owned any, and if not, if there was any specific reason you didn't.

The answers varied from never thought about it to didn't want them in the house.

There can be many reasons - sometimes they want people with no knowledge, sometimes they want people who DO know about them - like the difference between a revolver and semi-automatic pistol.

When asked if I owned any, my answer was along the lines of "yes, several". The judge had a bit of a grin when he replied "Several?". My reply was "yes, several". He moved on to the next questions.

If asked directly, the best answer is honesty. I was able to answer without having to be too specific.

            I wasn't asked.

Really doesn't matter for almost all cases anyway.

Best jury duty story I have is after being set in the panel they dismissed the person next to me and then his replacement. As the third person was growing about being sat in the box I told them they should be smiling as they where sitting in the lucky seat sense the last two got dismissed. Everyone laughed and the judge asked me if I didn't want to be there. I laughed and told him with the exception him, the court reporters and the lawyers no one else including the defendant wanted to be there. I was the next to be dismissed.

As for owning guns, half of my clothes are pro gun tee shirts and I almost always wear one when going to jury duty. I even wore them during a murder trial that I was in the jury for. Answer the questions honestly. They will either want you or not.

The PC answers would have been "a stockpile" or "an arsennal".

Just tell them all firearms laws unconstitutional and all judges and lawyers should get a real job and you will never serve on a jury.

                      Attorney response in drug/gun case

I was sitting on a panel when asked questions about whether I owned firearms and how many I requested that I be allowed to respond in chambered. When we (me, the judge, counsel and the bailiff) were assembled in Chambers I responded that I had several but that I didn't want to answer those questions in front of everyone in the Court. To my surprise it was the DA who asked that I be excused.

I was asked about firearms knowledge during jury selection for a murder trial.

I put that I was (and am) a certified instructor both by NRA and California DOJ. I owned enough pistols to teach a basic pistol class. The defense team seemed to want me on the jury after asking me a few questions about it during the process.

A firearm was the murder weapon in that case.

I served on that jury for 5 weeks.
