Carson Gun sales and possession ban

I was watching KTLA 5 this morning when this came up. Mayor Albert Robles is proposing to the city council tonight to ban the sale and possession of firearms in the city of Carson. specifically they're banning the sale and possession of firearms within a 1-mile radius of "sensitive areas" (schools, churches, playgrounds, parks, government buildings, etc.) using land use powers as a municipality. The eight gun stores already in Carson would go through what he calls due process and eventually be shut down. I looked for an article on the KTLA website but couldn't find anything so if anyone has any information please share.

Banning possession is nakedly unconstitutional and they know it.

        Thank you BeachBumbBurt

Jwalt that won't stop them from trying. The opposition is growing in their boldness, they don't care about individual freedoms.

I have an OCSD CCW and am willing to test my permit and this proposed law.

          Just need some financial backers.

This is nothing more than naked tyranny.

They know this violates the jurisprudence setforth within McDonald, and essentially copies the policies that NY just repealed in a vain attempt to moot NYSRPA v. NYC, NY.

These authoritarians need to be prosecuted and imprisoned for violating their oaths of office and treason.

Even if you don’t live in Carson, call and e-mail these tyrants. This affects not just residents, but anyone traveling through as well.

Talk about Impeachment.... needs to be FIRED in a major way...

                Controversies[edit]
In 2016, Los Angeles County prosecutors sued Robles to prevent him keeping his seat on the Water Replenishment Board, claiming that no person cannot be mayor or a city councilman and a board member.[15]

Robles is the subject of a separate probe by county prosecutors over his city of residence. The Los Angeles Times reported that Robles is actually living in the Adams-Normandie neighborhood of Los Angeles, but he is claiming he resides at his parents’ home in Carson.[1][15]

Robles faced multiple campaign finance violations for failing to submit documents during the 2012 and 2016 elections.[16] He initially had been ordered to pay at least $85,000 in fines,[17] and agreed to pay $12,000 to settle the violations.[18]

Robles was also facing a state ethics inquiry after "failing to submit state-required disclosure statements for his political campaign finances and personal economic interests for both his elected jobs."[15] This also became part of the $12,000 settlement.[citation needed]

Robles was also the subject of a sexual harassment suit brought by another Water Replenishment District director after losing a re-election campaign for the position in 2014. The former appointed director was the daughter of former CA Lieutenant Governor, Congressman, and Assemblyman Mervyn Dymally, but Robles denied the allegation.[19] The judge in the case dismissed the unverified action with prejudice.[citation needed]

Now if I lived in Carson I'd be mightily annoyed at this irresponsible waste of tax payers money. This will obviously litigated at great cost to the city i.e. the residents - unless Robles is going to use his own money to defend the inevitable suits.

Carson must have all the librarians, teachers, police, park rangers, firefighters, building inspectors etc. it needs to say that it is willing to spend $250 and hours on lawyers.

The worst part of all this show boating...is that they know that they will use more taxpayer dollars to fight the inevitable lawsuit. Wasting money and time implementing it, defending it and ultimately unwinding it.

This is the current liberal strategy...pass crap ordinances, laws, fees and taxes all the while knowing that they are wasting tax dollars...

                        Current Municipal Codes regarding firearms:

(That's directly to the page. the general link to their municipal codes, which has a search option in the top right, is here: https://www.codepublishing.com/CA/Carson/
However you can't link directly to your results from this page since it has the code in a window)

Currently the municipal code prohibits possession of AWs (as defined). I'm curious if this code is active and there was already a lawsuit over that as I imagine they can't legally prohibit them. I don't see the specific language calling out what the penalty is for violating said municipal code. Might be higher up in the code.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

Carson City Council strikes down resolution seeking to effectively ban gun sales, limit gun possession

CARSON, Calif. (KABC) -- The Carson City Council voted against a resolution to effectively ban gun sales and severely limit gun possession within the city limits on Tuesday.

Carson Mayor Albert Robles told Eyewitness News he would propose a resolution for a near outright ban to limit gun sales and gun possession using the city's land use powers.

Robles proposed that gun sales and gun possession would not be allowed within a one-mile radius of a school, park, church, or day care, making it impossible for anyone to be in the city limits with a gun.

The only exception would be having a gun inside one's home.

The plan for the near outright ban on guns and gun restrictions went before the Carson City Council and did not pass.

There were questions over the resolution's legality, with Loyola Law Professor Jessica Levinson saying it would not likely hold up in court.

"This strikes me as a resolution that is just too broad," Levinson told Eyewitness News. "Even if you want to use land use, you still have to contend with the fact that the Second Amendment is an individual right. The right to bear arms is something that the Supreme Court has said every individual has."

Robles said he was not sure if he would attempt to pass another similar resolution again.
