No bill currently in the legislature has such content.

And things like "(next month)" are a good clue that the speaker is talking through his hat.

CA laws generally take effect in January following the governor's signature in late September/early October. 'Next month' suggests the law might take effect in July, pretty unusual.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

So you said you were talking with an FFL. Guess that means at a gun store. Stick around and you will quickly learn the reputation of individuals at gun stores when they talk legal matters.

You know if they did over reach that far then it might settle it in our favor once and for all.

I cannot for the life of me find anything on this. Is this true? Or BS?
It happened in 2013, CA SB374 would have banned all semi-auto rifles, but CA Governor Brown veto'd it.

“I don’t believe that this bill’s blanket ban on semi-automatic rifles would reduce criminal activity or enhance public safety enough to warrant this infringement on gun owners’ rights.” - CA Governor Brown.

Was he trying to sell you a rifle? Kind of a "better-get-it-while-you-still-can" thing?

To follow up on Librarian's and Quiet's points-

There is no bill this session. There was a bill in 2013 which would have done so, had it not been vetoed by the governor. I.e, the bill wound its way through the safety committee, past the assembly, past the senate, and only failed because moonbeam thought it was too liberal even for him.

The main difference between then and now is: We have Newsome for governor. Some think Newsome would not be as reasonable.

                  Tick tock.

I'd like to think a revision to the AWB to include a ban on all semi-auto centerfire rifles would very likely get stricken down as unconstitutional - along with the rest of the statute. This is probably the only reason Brown veto'd the most recent attempt. It'd be a case almost identical to Heller.

Everyone jumps on the "this guy is an idiot" bandwagon but in reality, he's probably just trying to make a sale, similar to how a used car salesman would work every angle and tell you there is a lot of interest, same with a realtor telling you there are multiple offers.

Is it wrong to mislead for a sale? Yes. I advise going to a shop that doesn't play those games. The laws here are terrible enough, we don't need people to discourage "the average buyer" from getting into the hobby with rhetoric.

Yes. If a bill of this nature comes through again it will be signed, then promptly challenged and likely overturned, probably a lot more overturned than they want it to be. Maybe they will wise up and realize they are playing with fire. I'm not holding my breath.

While there is nothing currently in session, as others have noted, there was in 2013 and it got vetoed. There's a strong belief that this is the next logical step once they see that the BB ban didn't do anything since we found "loopholes" in that law too. The question is do they have the balls to do it? IANAL but I seriously doubt that would pass Constitutional muster even in CA and the 9th, let alone if it made it to the USSC.
It was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.

Awesome thanks guys. I’m sure he was just trying to make a sale. Good to know! Just glad I don’t have to worry about having a useless rifle laying around.
