    Shipping out of state.

If one buys a pistol in CA, Moves out of state and at some point sells it to a local shop. What happens to a record of him owning it in CA.? What about if one ships a pistol to Oregons or Nevada FFL? Is it still registered to that person in CA???

You can fill out the form with the DOJ to say you no longer own the gun. Or you can just be in the 'system' forever.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

No personal experience, but i've heard that doesn't always work either.
"Did I say "republic?" By God, yes, I said "republic!" Long live the glorious republic of the United States of America. Damn democracy. It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook Pegler

Interesting. So , I buy a pistol , move back to Ill, sell it to a pawnshop. And the gun is still in my name in CA? WOW!!!! Also , everyone says You cant ship a gun to a non FFL. Ok. How about shipping it to Yourself? in A different part of the country.( Prior to a visit, hunting trip, pistol competition).

That is legal. There's an entry in BATFE's website FAQ's about it.

There is a No Longer In Possession form that is used for that purpose. However, CADOJ removed the NLIP form from the website. A websearch can find it hosted on another CA gov website. Unfortunately, a calgunner mentioned recently that when he sent in an NLIP, CADOJ refused to accept it saying that some people use it fraudulently so now nobody can use it.

So, if you legally sell it out of state, as far as CA is concerned, it appears that the handgun will always be registered in your name.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

A few months ago I got a letter from the LA police department. They informed me that they were in possession of a handgun registered to me. The letter contained instructions as to how I could retrieve my handgun. The letter also said that if I did not retrieve the handgun by a certain date they would destroy it.

The letter also had the serial number of the handgun. A quick investigation showed that I did indeed have a handgun with that serial number. That handgun was safely in my gun safe. I called the LA PD and informed them of this. Their response? "Ok. We will go ahead and destroy the gun."

I am now in possession of a handgun that has been destroyed by the LA PD.

I don't like the idea of my name on something I don't own. But on the other hand I like the idea of the CA records being full crap.
