Have Presidents always nominated the best person for the position? Hardly. Look at Harriet Miers...

All I ask is that they have a strong background in Constitutional law.

If you think Heller is going to make an Obama appointee protect the 2nd,
it isn't going to happen. There isn't going to be a way to stop ANYBODY Obama
puts up for the bench. Pete

            Constitutional scholars

Alot of the constitutional scholars have actually shifted over to our side regarding the 2nd amendment.

The Nevada ACLU broke ranks with the national and supports the individual right to keep and bear arms.

In the past Supreme court hearings that I remember watching, the second amendment did not come up.

The social issues that will split the Senate will be Roe vs Wade and Heller.

There is no way Obama will nominate a pro life nominee, but if he nominates someone who is pro abortion and pro victim disarmanent, the combination of that vote is something many senators don't want.

Considering 70 percent of Americans view the 2A as a right, voting for a justice who opposes that right soon could become political suicide in many parts of the country.

The best way to get them to do this would be to grow the NRA and other pro constitution groups by at least 50%. About 4 million of the roughly 80 to 90 million gun owners are members so the rest are not heard.

If the Holder confirmation is an indicator they won't block anyone he appoints for being against the constitution. Holder publicly stated that he believed the second amendment was not an individual right and even signed an amicus brief stating that said the 2nd amendment is not an individual right.

Eric Holder signed an amicus brief in the Heller case that supported the District of Columbia’s handgun ban, and also argued that the Second Amendment does not protect an individual right,” noted SAF founder Alan Gottlieb. “He has supported national handgun licensing and mandatory trigger locks. As deputy attorney general under Janet Reno, he lobbied Congress to pass legislation that would have curtailed legitimate gun shows.

"I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller," Holder said, referring to the Supreme Court ruling in Washington, D.C. v. Heller, which asserted the Second Amendment as an individual's right to own a weapon.

Holder has been a long-time gun control activist. Most recently, he joined 12 other former Justice Department officials in SUPPORTING the DC gun ban and arguing the Second Amendment does NOT protect an individual right.

Look at the record of senetors who voted for him. Where are the "blue dogs" and "republicans"?

While we lost the battle on Monday (by a vote of 75-21), you guys
registered your opposition loud and clear.

Look at the list of people who voted to confirm him. How can anyone be more anti gun than him?
