The APP system is about to go online. Though some agencies already are using the system its about to become more widespread and automated.
Basically any time the police run a multiple name inquiries the search will automatically check and see if the person being run has previously registered a handgun or assault weapon and has since become a prohibited person due to a restratining order or prohibiting criminal conviction.
What it will not do:
It will not give a hit on everyone who has registered a handgun or AW.
It will not give a hit on all prohibited persons.
It will only give a hit on prohibited persons who have previously registered handguns or assault weapons.
The likely effect of this is during traffic stops if the cops get a hit under this system they will be more likely to ask for consent to search the subject and or vehicle looking for firearms.
