    11 day wait?

I called a local shop (to remain unnamed for the moment) To set up a time to pick up my handgun after the full 10 day waiting period. I was informed with a sturn NO. We wait 11 days to be safe.
Is it legal for them to hold MY property an extra day because they're afraid of the DOJ? TIA

    Yes...

It is legal for them to do so. I think Big 5 does this.

Yup. Some places have store policies like that. I think big 5 and sports authority are like that.

And Wild Sports in Sacramento area does to...

They reference the "10 24-hour periods" on the DOJ website, even though the law says "10 days"...

They said it would be a logistal nightmare to figure out what part of the day you bought it, so they just say it's ready for pickup on the 11th day...

Darn, Everything else is covered over by some stupid law. You'd think that this would be too. Thanks for the info!

It's easier for them to make you wait an extra day than it is for them to learn how to count.

It's really simple, to me. There's a time and date stamp on the receipt. Just add ten days, then come in at or after the time of sale and you're golden.

If gun stores are fine with 11 days, why don't we just make the law 11 days? Then we could move up to 12, right?

Hey I have even been made to wait a full 11 24 hour periods. I had to pick up my shotgun at like 8pm on the 11th day.

One time I had to wait 12 days!...but that was because they were closed on the weekend.

                      diginit,

Please post the name of the store that does that.

Perhaps marketplace pressure can confound idiocy.

This has happened twice to me. It seem to be policy at the Gun Vault and Valley Gold pawn shop. I can understand not wanting to risk their FFL. But if the law has been complied with, Why do they need the extra window for error? They all put the time of purchase on the reciept, And Valley Gold submitted the paperwork Via the net at the time of my purchase. I'm sure it had a time sent and a time of arrival at the DOJ's mailbox.
This is another law that should be ammended. I already own 3 register handguns, Why should I wait to buy another.

Last pistol I bought at Target Masters had me waiting 11 days too.

They had notices up about their 11 day policy and they made it clear to me I was going to have to wait 11 days at ther start of the transaction. I think that's fair. If I don't like it I can go someplace else.

They said the same thing, they do it to make sure they never release a weapon too soon and get into trouble.

I bought a rifle yesterday afternoon (March 4), and my pick up day is March 17, a 13 day wait. I asked about it and was told it is 10 24 hour periods. So I said only business days to which I was told 10 24 hour periods. By my calculation I should be able to pick it up the afternoon of March 14. In any case I've got to work and the 17th actually works well for me.
