    1/1/17 AW?

So on 1/1/17 all our semiauto, magazine locked (BB) firearms become CA AWs by definition.

"The state will allow us" to re-register for a fee (after the original DROS (fee paid) and 10 day wait we all went through the first time) those as AWs before 12/31/17.

We don't know when the CA DOJ firearms portal will be ready for us to do that.

So what happens if you remove your mag lock prior to having the opportunity to register? Its already an AW with a BB by legislative definition on 1/1/17 why not ditch that BB which is also an AW on 1/1/17 as long as your register by 12/31/17?

Speculating that enforcement may not be even possible until 1/1/18?

Maybe this was Librarian's intent in his prior post?

That's the question that many on this site already claim to have the answer to, but all they really can tell you is what THEY intend to do. Nobody can say for sure what's up with the bullet button. Yet.

I would highly recommend NOT removing any bb until receiving confirmation of the aw registration BACK in your hands. Last thing we need is the state "loosing" a bunch of paperwork and more good people going to jail for felonies.

Well on Jan 1 the bullet button is legally the same thing as a standard mag release so why wouldn't you be able to swap it for one? Nothing would suggest otherwise.

What is this, the 1,000,000th post of this nature in a month?

With the surge of gun sales in the last few months, I'm sure there would have been more repeat questions. I've read conflicting statements from different sites, but as it stands there's no definite answer, which probably confuses a lot of new/existing firearm owners.

              FAQ, as noted.

Unless you are going all the way to featureless, removing the BB before Jan 1 would be 'manufacturing' an 'assault weapon'.

              Do not do that.

As to what the year-to-register may also allow, I don't know for sure, and I'm waiting for a competent legal interpretation.
