AB 857 - The last one!!

Just got an email from FPC, about the last remaining bill to be delivered to the Governor. This one we definitely don't want passed.

    Here's the link:

If I had granpappy's old shotgun, I sure as hell wouldn't etch no dang serial number on it. Come hell or high water.

He already vetoed a similar bill this session...anything could happen but I'm cautiously optimistic.

There were/are several either overlapping or duplicates. I figure they took the shotgun approach thinking Brown would sign at least some of them. Which he has...

AB 857 is not the last one. De Leon's SB 1407 is in committee and is virtually identical.

This session is far from being over.

My gut feeling is that Brown will sign whatever gun bills are left in the wake of all that has been going on.

If I had my grandfathers and great grandfathers old hardware, one could be assured there is no f'ing way I would scar it with some mandated serial number.

                  Dear government,
May I please build a legally compliant firearm in my garage? I would really appreciate you permission. I am on bended knee pleading withyou to allow me to do as I please in this, a free America. If you would be so kind as to grant this permission please also issue me the state mandated serial number which I will faithfully engrave onto my firearm. Also, please provide the mailing address and appropriate fees that I will owe you for granting me the permission to conduct this lawful act.

                  Mercifully,
                  Your simple peasant serf

With regards to older guns, this law sounds like its going to get about as much compliance as the "large capacity" magazine ban. The serial number on my 101 year old Swedish Mauser isn't good enough so I have to get another one from DOJ?? Or am I misunderstanding this law?

I've read the bill several times and the way I understand it, if you want to build a gun then the state will place a serial number on your arm.

I've read the bill in detail. The way I read the bill is their intent is to make people who have firearms without manufacturer information / serial numbers, to apply for them from the DOJ and thus register them.

In the meat of the law it specifically saws to refer to a penal code and to adhere to it, which says when a person has a firearm without a manufacturer applied serial number that they shall contact the DOJ for a serial number.

I don't know about you guys, but all my firearms have serial numbers.
