Another new one SB-843 -- signed by the governor 6/27

Just saw it in an email from FPC.

    SB-843

    Here's the FPC story. Link

In a state where corruption abounds, laws must be very numerous.
    Publius Cornelius Scipio

Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry.
    ― Thomas Jefferson

Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

The Power to Tax Is the Power to Destroy

Chief Justice John Marshall was at his axiomatic best in the Supreme Court opinion set forth in McCulloch v. Maryland.
      https://fee.org/articles/the-power-t...er-to-destroy/

      Funny how that works.

What gymnastics do they have to play to get amendments like this in? Ridiculous.

So this is (DROS) FSE fund raid 3.0?! While they're actively being sued (HERE and HERE) for the former illegal taxes? Freakin' outrageous!

The former illegal tax raids had bipartisan support too, something to note.

        ----------------

ETA: Here is the core of the raid (as opposed to the OP bill which is an enhancement so to speak) from FPC: BREAKING: Legislature To Vote On Raiding Gun-Buyer Paid Firearms Safety Fund; Will Give To Kamala Harris

Question, where is all that contained? In the budget? How to find?

So it's going to cost me more to buy a gun? OK, I'll just order stuff online and not pay the use tax. Two can play this game.......

True, but among the populace they seem bent on taking the most money from those inclined toward self protection.

Not even close but thanks for playing. This has nothing to do with sales or use tax.

Two can play? Like a second user account on CGN? What was your old screen name?

how is it not close? while yes, you can't avoid this extra tax on firearm sales, everything else you can buy out of state and have it shipped to your house you can definitely defy CA by then not reporting it on your Use Tax on your tax forms.

and IMO, losing that sales/use tax revenue will hit them harder than the this extra revenue they earn from firearm sales.

if they want to add extra tax in one area, deprive them of tax revenue elsewhere.

Read the post below yours from Scratch705. It explains exactly the intent of my post.

I've just recently joined Calguns so don't have a second user account nor a prior user name.

Now off to Turners I go to see if a certain gun was received today......

                        Signed by JB 6/27.

                        Budget thing, relevant sections
                        (21) Existing law authorizes the Department of Justice to require each dealer to charge each firearm purchaser or transferee a fee not to exceed $1 for each firearm transaction for the purpose of supporting department program costs related to the Deadly Weapons Recodification Act of 2010.

This bill would authorize the Department of Justice to increase that fee at a rate not to exceed any increase in the California Consumer Price Index and not to exceed the reasonable cost of regulation to the department.

                        (22) Existing law establishes the Firearms Safety and Enforcement Special Fund and continuously appropriates the moneys in the fund to the Department of Justice for purposes relating to the regulation of firearms. Existing law also authorizes the department to require firearms dealers to charge each person who obtains a firearm a fee not to exceed $5 for each transaction. Revenues from this fee are deposited into the fund.

This bill would make the revenue deposited into that fund available for expenditure by the department upon appropriation by the Legislature. The bill would also authorize the department to increase the $5 fee at a rate not to exceed any increase in the California Consumer Price Index as compiled and reported by the Department of Industrial Relations, and not to exceed the reasonable cost of regulation to the department.

In a few years this special "tax" will have gained $17. There will be no guns left to tax in CA.

Too bad the CPI is going to explode in this state thanks to all the increased wage laws they're passing...
                              "We need more taxes!"
So the obvious thing to do is to raise the minimum wage to some ridiculous level, driving the CPI up, allowing them to increase their taxes. On top of that... you now fall into a new tax bracket. More tax revenue!!! Fewer guns in the hands of the law-abiding!!! Taxing a fundamental right!!! Huzzah!!!
It's obvious these people know nothing about functional economic policy.
