I contacted my assembly member and urged a NO vote on the firearm bills. I got a response today:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me with your thoughts concerning the national conversation on gun control legislation. Your thoughts regarding this topic are important to me.
I strongly believe in the 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. I also believe it is essential to have regulations in place to protect the safety of our communities. I fully support the valiant efforts of our law enforcement and public safety officials. Therefore, I support legislation that will alleviate pressure on law enforcement and ultimately make our communities safer.
In light of recent tragedies across our nation, it would be irresponsible not to reexamine our gun control policies as well as our mental health services. I will work with my colleagues in the Legislature along with local officials to find measured solutions that will curtail the tide of violence in our schools and communities.
