    Dear NRA-ILA, Thanks!

First things first... I'm a proud Benefactor Life Member of the NRA. I received an email newsletter from the NRA-ILA that talked about the closing of the Chabot gun club, so I clicked the link (below) to read what they had to say.

In general, the article expressed exactly how I felt while I was at the board meeting, protesting the proposed closing of Chabot Gun Club. Yes, I took the day off work to attend the meeting, and while we were ultimately unsuccessful in convincing the EBRPD board of directors, I felt as if I did my part.

Here's where I get pissed off. The article by the NRA-ILA, while good, ends with the following:

The NRA and CRPA work together in California to fight for you, in cities and counties across the state, with regulatory agencies, and in the courts. Even with the generous rates that our team of civil rights attorneys, legislative advocates, experts and consultants grant us, these ongoing efforts are still expensive. You can support our pro-Second Amendment efforts by donating to the NRA and CRPA. All donations will be spent to specifically benefit California gun owners.
So my question is, while I've supported the NRA with thousands of dollars, where were they that day? They claim to want to help, but all I saw that day were hundreds of citizens and shooting enthusiasts, but no support from the NRA.

Anybody else feel the same or have a different opinion?

Could be wrong, but my impression is that the commitment to use funds in California is fairly new.

It looks like to me just in the last 2 weeks, but even that is anemic. They are doing a matching funds drive for use in CA but it is only up to $50,000. If the NRA really wanted to drive membership in CA and solidify our support it would be a lot more.

I think quite a few people are fed up with the relentless fundraising on their part yet they don't spend any here.

Many of the stupid anti-gun laws start here and spread like a cancer, if they would cut the head off the snake early in the battle it would be much better overall.

There's a sticky - in this very forum - that goes into great detail about the NRAs efforts in CA.

It'd be nice if people at least read the sticky titles - even if they can't be bothered to read the sticky posts themselves - before posting in a sub forum.

A bit of info: Chuck Michel, of Michel & Associates, is the legal guy for CRPA and leads a bunch of NRA court cases. Chuck represents Chabot, and has done so long after Chabot's budget for that ran out, according to the Chabot officers.

Chuck was present at the 'hearing'.

I agree that the NRA does not always seem to be all that helpful here. I also feel that in many cases they aren't reflecting my values. But I'm still a life member. In my opinion, if you support 2A rights, you must join NRA.

That's what I was advised too. Probably the most relevant guy in the room that qualifies as "the NRA and/or CRPA" having been there.

If some level of government had that information, what would they do with it? How would having that info benefit public safety? How would it benefit law enforcement?

The NRA is the biggest and meanest dog we will ever have in the fight.
No organization is perfect but they have the biggest bite and to not support them for any reason is foolish.

An analogy using guns might help: the 5.56 M4 carbine is not the perfect long gun, but I have yet to hear of any US soldier laying it down just to use their 9mm pistol in a gun fight.

Not funding the NRA is like taking your pistol to a long gun fight. You just gave up a huge advantage at your peril.

DON'T BE STUPID. SUPPORT THE NRA.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

Besides the fact that the NRA is it's members many of whom spoke up and it's main legal eagle was assisting, what exactly do you think any group could have done to keep the EBRPD Board from closing the range when they were already obviously ignoring the facts and had their minds made up to close the range no matter what anyone said?

You sound like someone that doesn't want to join and is just looking for any B S excuse to justify your decision to not support the largest and most powerful gun rights organization in the country.
