    ATF Visited My Home Today

I had a visit from the ATF Fresno office about an hour ago. The purpose of their visit was supposedly to verify I still had my Mossberg 500 shotgun. According to their story my gun was found in Columbia and the Columbian government asked the US government to help determine the source of the gun.

There were two agents, a Brian Kinderknecht, Special Agent and another fellow. They dismantled by 500, checked the serial number, asked if the collapsible stock originally came with the gun (it did not) and then gave it back to me.

Anyone else have anything similar happen to them lately?

Fresno has an ATF office ??? (That could only mean that Redding has a satellite office ?)

Did they have a warrant? If not; you just let them look? Crazy.

Interesting. How did they even know that you might have had this particular shotgun? Shotguns aren't generally registered, so I guess they must have followed the transfer history through FFL records, starting at the manufacturer. Assuming that the story told to you by ATF was kosher, I'd have to think that somebody made a typo in the serial number somewhere to think that it was your gun that was found down there in Columbia.

Did they have a search warrant, or did you voluntarily show them the gun out of the kindness of your heart?

How would they know you have a shotgun? Long guns aren't registered with the feds or CA.

The form 4473 paper trail would be my guess.

They had to do some legwork to track him down!

Nothing to hide. I did not let them in the house. I am not as hard nosed as I should be but I don't particularly want them back. I consider BATFE a very dangerous organization.

Get the manufacturer, model and SN, call the manufacturer, then follow the paper chain through the various distributors to the FFL that sold the shotgun. Then pull out the 4473 for that transfer...

They knew the make, model and serial number and the date I purchased it from a local gun shop. The FFL records must be quite easy for them to check.

They did not have a warrant and I did not let them enter my house. I brought the gun out and will take a log of flack from members for doing so but I did not want them back with a warrant.
