yup, perfectly legal. but, if a gang banger possesses a loaded mag, then it is considered a loaded weapon.

some leos still consider a loaded mag a loaded weapon regardless and may hassle you.

Yes you can even toss the mag in the box with the gun

Repeat after me: The magazine isn't an issue as long as it's not in the gun.

And yes, I mean a loaded mag.

You can put the mag wherever else you feel like. You can put the loaded mag in the same container, and it's not a loaded gun.

You can even have the pistol not concealed, in plain view sitting on the passenger seat, with a loaded mag next to it and its legal.

OK; repeating after you. The magazine isn't an issue as long as it's not in the gun.

OK, I think I got it.

Then, I could have the mag in my pocket? Assuming I am not a known gang member?

That could be weirder. There's case law - People v Hale (1974), (search if you like, links are on the board) where some judge appears to rule that a concealed magazine makes the gun concealed.

I think that's just illogical when a gun is in plain sight, but the law is seldom about logic.

So, open carry the mag, too.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Unless it is locked in the trunk or a locked container.

enjoy californiaopencarry.org it not just for open carry
False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.

Trying to imagine where and why you would need a magazine somewhere other than with the pistol and can't come up with a scenario that ISN'T useless finger****ing, being a poseur, or a visual invite for a policeman to get excited (rightly or wrongly).
I'd leave it out of sight with the properly stored weapon.
