4 Briefs Filed w/ CA Sup Ct in appeal of NRA/CRPA Suit Overturning AB 962 (Parker)

Earlier this week, a large number of California and national gun rights organizations, law enforcement groups, and 21 individual sheriffs filed four important amicus briefs with the California Supreme Court. For various reasons, the briefs urge the Court to uphold the decisions of both the trial court and the court of appeal that overturned CA's laws banning mail order ammunition sales and mandating registration and thumpbrinting for all in-store transactions.

Response to Amicus Briefs Filed 12/23/14

On December 23, 2014, AB 962 challengers and Respondents in Parker v. State of California filed a response to an amicus brief filed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. Respondents' most recent filing urges the California Supreme Court to accept, among other things, NSSF's argument that no knowledge requirement can be read into the challenged provisions of AB 962, which reach a substantial amount of constitutionally protected conduct and impose criminal sanctions. Respondents thus argue it is proper to apply a more lenient legal standard to their claims that the laws are unconstitutionally vague on their face.
