DC police grants full reciprocity for all open and concealed carry

    Is this true?

Does anybody have another source to verify this?

STUNNING DEVELOPMENT: DC Police Chief Lanier just told force not to arrest a person who can legally carry a gun in DC or any state.

DC police chief using guidance from AG -- grants full reciprocity for all open and concealed carry from others states.

Hard to believe, but if it IS real I suspect it is to be VERY temporary - DC may be playing defense while their lawmakers huddle and put together a draconian law to answer Palmer.
Where rights secured by the Constitution are involved, there can be no rule making or legislation which would abrogate them.
      Miranda vs. Arizona
The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes...

This is rough one. Emily Miller would very likely be one of the first to find out about this if it's true.

The police chief can tell their officers not to arrest for otherwise lawfully carrying. But they can't grant reciprocity, as that is a legislative matter.

I'm thinking that DC believes that they will get a stay of the judges order sometime tomorrow and so it will be moot.

They were ordered to by a Federal Judge.

Ill bet every box of ammo I own the DC City Council is in emergency session tonight as I type this to ensure concealed and open carry is prohibited to the commoner by sunup.

Cue 12 month debate process as the antis fight tooth and nail to prevent shall issue from coming to DC. That being said, id want to see the look on Obamas face when he wakes up and realizes the RKBA has come to his doorstep.

The noose is quickly tightening on them.
"It wasn't a failure of laws," said Amanda Wilcox, who along with her husband, Nick, lobbies for the California chapter of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. "I just don't see how our gun laws could have stopped something like that."

No LOL about it. That being said, if youre planning to take a selfie of you legally carrying near the Washington monument youd better jump on it.........

DC doesn't have legislators. They have a mayor and a council. They are not a state.

Only way that happens is via court of appeals. DC would have been granted a stay pending a change of law. The tweet means they're not contesting. Otherwise the AG wouldn't have advised the Chief to follow the order.

The law prohibiting carry in Washington DC has been vacated as unenforcible by Federal court. As such there is no legal prohibition to walking down the Capitol Mall openly carrying a nickel plated 1911 -until some hackneyed order is issued from some agency of government banning the practice, or a stay is ordered pending drafting of new legislation.Rules doubtlessly being drafted as I type this now.

In the case of Illinois which is the closest example ,there was a separate law authorizing local cities to regulate firearms which stood aside from the carry ban law which got struck down. No such equivalent exists in DC.

I know that. The council makes ordinances and legal agreements with other entities, not individual officials.

Here's another interesting twitter from Emily Miller:

Only gun arrests now in DC can be DC residents with unregistered guns and non-residents who are prohibited under federal laws.
It appears that a non-resident has constitutional carry, but a DC resident must have their gun registered.
